Hi ladies, My DH and I have been TTC for a couple months now and I was hoping I could get some much needed advice about acne from those of you who have been or are in the same position as I am.
I have had average to severe acne problems since I was 13yrs old. I've always been perscribed Benzoyl Peroxide and Reten-A which I've used and had pretty positive results from. (Nothing with Systolic Acid [Proactive, etc.] has EVER worked for me even slightly.) I just moved, so I don't yet have a Dermatologist (or even an OB) at this point and was hoping I could get some advice about keeping horrid acne under controle with out harming a potential baby in the mean time. I have stoped using my Benzoyl and Reten-A in hopes I can find something more natural and safer to use in preparation for becoming pregnant. I'm open to home remedies, over-the-counter, whatever it takes to treat my acne sucessfuly. I was hoping someone had been there and might have a sugestion for me.
Thanks so much!
Re: Acne Advice?
I never had acne until I was an adult but I have battled it hard since. I've used everything!! Oddly enough, I went to more gentle and natural products and I've had much better results.
I use black soap and/or purity by philosophy at night followed by philosophy lotion. In the morning I just use water to rinse my face and then philosophy lotion.
I really think the black soap is what has done the trick for me...GL!!
I switched over to Yes to Tomatoes products while I was pregnant and my skin looked amazing! I break out on my face, chest and back, so I used the face and body washes. I also use the Tea Tree Oil blemish stick from The Body Shop.
I agree with the PP about switching to a more natural soap. I don't use black soap, but we switched from brands like Dove and Dial for ZumBar soaps. It has helped my post-partum breakouts a lot.
We also use free and clear detergent for our laundry, which we didn't before I got pregnant. Not only has my skin cleared, but DH's has too. He was prone to allergic reactions, eczema, etc. Both of us have had a lot of luck just by purchasing products without extra chemicals in them.
