MT decisions ... WWYD?

I'm trying to decide between the echino with hemp straps and the Beanslings ... DD  is 10 months/20lbs/not sure how tall, but average. :)

What do you think?

Re: MT decisions ... WWYD?

  • I have a baby hemp tei (smaller version of the NHT) and honestly its WAY too big for my 7 month old who is very tall.  However she is skinny so that may have something to do with it.  I have to fold over the waist twice, just so her head is out.  Forget arms out.  I also find it to be bulky for my frame (size 8, biggish boobs and narrow shoulders).  I think I will like it when she is much older, but for now it's just sitting.

I don't know anything about Bean Sling but I like the pattern much better on it compared to the NHT.

  • Oh bummer. I know I've heard good things about the Beanslings, but not as much about the NHT. I really like the idea that it's all natural materials and eco friendly ... I feel like that might make it more breathable. Ugh, this is why wrapping is so easy. :)

  • My BHT isn't breathable/cool at all.  However I have the hemp cord straps.  I find it to be more warm and snuggly, even though the body is silk.  That could be because of the cord straps though.

I love the idea of a MT, and have Fred's homemade infant here on loan, and love it, but I find the BHT to be just bulky and warm.  I am pretty sure it's a strap issue for me, and not the body.

I am thinking I might try a wrap conversion next.

  • Having tried both I like the NHT better - but I prefer less "structured" carriers.  Beanslings are more "heavy duty" in terms of the way they are built (or the materials used).  Both of those are more toddler sized carriers though and would likely be pretty big for a 10 month old.  The NHT could be more easily rolled down though if you were really loving it and wanted something that would last through toddlerhood.

Thank you! In that case, I think I'll try the NHT for now. :)

  • They are both adorable.  I think the NHT would last you longer as you can roll it for use now and it will last you well into toddlerhood.  That being said, I think I might choose whichever pattern you prefer, both or good MTs.
  • I PM'd the mama about the NHT. I want something I can use NOW. :) Will post pics if I get it! I'm excited to get a mei tai and am hoping it will be a gateway drug for DH to wrapping. :)

  • I have an NHT & love it!! I had to roll the waist once for Ari to be arms out until he was about 14-15 months. It's really supportive yet really soft.
