Your childhood toys

Do any of your children play with any of your childhood toys?

Nora recently discovered my old stickerbook I had stowed away on a bookshelf. She's been having a blast looking through all my old stickers and putting some of her own in there as well. Can you believe the scratch-n-sniff ones still smell? I bet some of them are 27+ years old!

She is thrilled that she is playing with something that used to be mine and continues to thank me over and over for sharing it with her.

Re: Your childhood toys

  • My mom/I kept a ton of my toys!  I love pulling them out for Cedric now.  He plays with a ton of them.  Now if only I have a girl sometime....there is a ton for a girl to play with!  But Cedric likes playing with my toys.  Of course he is too young to know that they were mine when I was little.

  • At my Grandmother-in-laws, the kids play with a FP Snoopy dog that was played with by my FIL and DH and his siblings.  Both of my kids love it.  They also sit in a booster chair that DH and his siblings used when they were kids.

At my mom's, Adah plays with a few dolls that were either mine or my sisters.  They are pretty beat up but she doesn't mind.

  • Yes! My mom kept a lot of my things. (OK, really I made her keep them) I love that she loves things my grandma made for me- a giant Big Bird, and a cloth "book" that has a bed and closet with clothes for a little dolly.

  • A decent amount of the toys and books at my MIL's were DH's when he was little so when we are over there Nicholas plays with them.

I don't really have many toys of mine but the toy chest we just started using is the one I had in my bedroom and used as a little girl. I also just pulled out a shoe box of all the old cassette tapes my mom used to play on our daily commute (she is a professor at Sinclair so I would commute up to Dayton with her everyday and go to preschool there-- I have vivid memories of listening to these tapes and I still remember a lot of the words). I just found a cd copy of my favorite 'sleepy time' songs that I am getting Nicholas for his birthday. Listening to those songs still makes me sleepy haha

  • I had all of my Strawberry Shortcake figurines and a few accessories.  K loves those.  They still smell fruity despite nearly 30 years in my parents' basement.

DH saved his stuffed sesame street characters.  K sleeps with Ernie in her crib.

THIS!  I couldn't believe it when I went to squeeze my Strawberry Shortcake doll and the fruity scent came wafting out...oh the memories!!

My parents kept many of my toys, books, dolls and even clothes...despite being a military family and moving every three to four years.  I am still in disbelief that they packed up and hauled our stuff all over, time and time again.  And very, very thankful.  I love that DD can enjoy them now!

We have a few of DH's favorite childhood toys too.  It's so endearing to see DD sitting in his little rocking chair...knowing that at some point, he was a toddler rocking away in it too.  Ok, now I'm an emotional mess.  Crying

  • My mom kept some of my dolls which I'll give to DD when she's a little older.  We still have some stuffed animals as well.  Oh and my mom has our entire stash of board games.
  • The majority of the books we have were books from my childhood.  Almost everything DS plays with at my parent's house was mine and/or my brothers.  My mom saves everything.  I have had a blast walking down memory lane with him.....tons of old school FP stuff, sesame street, care bears, and matchbox cars.  And there are barbies, strawberry shortcake and my little ponies waiting for DD.  And I cannot wait for her to pull out castle grayskull for DS.....complete with microphone!!!!  I may have to find some he-man videos for him to watch.  Smile

  • I always used to play with my mom's barbies at her parents' house. Her barbies even had handmade clothes from her aunt. I knew how special it was.

My parents' house has to have some toys from a long time ago in the basement. Audrey does have some of my old books and things already. I know my parents have my old stuffed animals... I should get them to get those out.
