I'm having a c/c tomorrow morning because baby is breech. ?Anyone have any words of advice or encouragement to ease my worried mind???

??

Re: c/s moms

  • Good luck. I had a wonderful experience with my c-section and have healed nicely. Make sure you get up and walk around soon after, but don't overdo it!

  • congrats..  don't worry..  i didn't think it was bad.. and best of all no labor ..
  • I LOVED my c/s, and would never want to give birth vaginally!  It was a great experience and my recovery was a breeze- I only bled for 3 days, was out taking walks the same week, and by 3 weeks felt 100% normal.  Obviously that's not how everyone's experience will be- but there's a lot of women who think a c/s will be awful to recover from (I was scared!) but it wasn't AT ALL.  I was all on my own with DS from the time he was 10 days old and had no problem taking care of him solo.  I will definitely want another c/s when we have another child.

Just stay ahead of the pain- take the meds they offer you!  The first night might be a little rough, but that's true no matter how you deliver.  Get up and walk as soon as the nurses suggest trying it, because the sooner you're up, the better.

  • I had the same situation. The procedure itself was fine, not half as bad as I'd anticipated...although they did dope me up good b/c I was such a nervous wreck.

I must say, be prepared for a long recovery. I know everyone is different, but I wasn't feeling back to normal until 6 weeks pp. Take it easy.

  • It's been 5 weeks since and I've recovered really well.  I just saw the doctor today for my post partum visit and I'm all clear to exercise, etc.  After 3 weeks I felt pretty much back to normal.

I had never had surgery before, so it was a little scary when I found out I would have a c section, but after 25 hours of labor, I just wanted the baby out!  And now I'm glad because I can go straight for the c section next time around.  Good luck to you!  And I agree with the pp - take the meds they offer and take them before the pain starts.

  • My c/s was great.  Take pain meds when you need them.  Take advantage when people offer to help.  I was stupid and did everything on my own.

  • Try to chill.  I was not chill the day before, didn't sleep at all the night before, and really just worried way  too much.  The worst part about getting my c/s was having the i/v inserted (took 4 tries!) and even that wasn't really all that bad considering what I got in return.

Welcome to 0-6!  Smile  I remembered it seemed like I would always be pg and wham! its all over, you made it and your life is never going to be the same again (in a good way).

  • good luck!  I had a hard labor for a long time before they decided to do the c/s.  If I had known what a breeze the c/s was, I would have been begging for it a lot earlier!  I had no problems healing, just make sure to get up and start walking/moving as soon as you can because it will help your recovery!

  • Walk as soon as possible.

    Take Colace.

Stock up on the nursery supplies for your baby.

  • How exciting!  You're going to look back and wonder why you even worried.  For me, it was a breeze.  The morning after my c/s I was up showered, hair done, and a full face of make up.  Just keep up with your pain meds, even if you think you don't need them.  It's easier just not to start hurting in the first place.  Make up your mind that you're in the house and enjoying that baby for at least a couple of weeks and you're great!  GL and know everything will be okay!

  • I had an emergency c-section last tuesday because our little guy was breech and coming fast (born 35 weeks).  Honestly the c-section itself wasn't bad.  Didn't hurt at all although I had some serious brusing as did he.  I had a spinal block and couldn't get out of bed until the next morning (he was born at 7:41pm).  I guess the only words of advice is just realize that this is a big deal and recovery will take a while.  I am still on pain pills and resting a week later, doctor said in another week I should be back to almost normal.  But the actual c-section wasn't unpleasant at all and its nice to know that your baby is safe.
  • It's not as bad as it sounds!  I was a nervous wreck before mine as well.

    The spinal doesn't hurt

I am still in some pain, it's been 3 weeks today but each day is better than the last.

Stay caught up with the pain medication.  When the nurse says you can have another pill and asks if you want it, say yes even if you don't feel the pain.

Move around and walk as soon as they tell you you can!  The more you move, the easier it gets.

  • Ditto PP on taking Colace or another stool softener while you are still in the hospital.  Not only is your system messed up from not eating like usual (fasting before surgery, not eating as much as usual and having it be crappy hospital food) but the drugs they give you for pain actually make you constipated.  My c/s was a total breeze and honestly the first post-partum poop hurt WAY more than anything associated with the surgery.

Everyone reacts differently to the c/s.  If your recovery is a little tougher it's a good idea to only go up and down stairs a few times/day if you have a 2-story house.  We set up a changing station on our main level before the surgery in case this happened to us.

  • Don't worry about a thing. My c/s was a breeze with a super easy recovery. I was out of the hospital on day 2 and walking in the neighborhood by the end of the week. Everyone had given me their horror stories and to be honest the worst part was the nurse trying to find a vein for the IV. The spinal didn't hurt at all and I never even felt any tugging or pressure during the c/s. Don't stress yourself out and enjoy it. I wouldn't change a thing.

Good Luck tomorrow and I'll keep you in my prayers

  • Thank you all so much! ?I feel very reassured and much more confident heading into tomorrow! I'll see you all when I am officially on 0-6 soon!!!
  • My c/s was not bad at all, I was in the hospital for 4 days,  I was released at 3  but decided to stay one extra day for the sleep.  Anyway,  I was fully recovered by that fourth day. My advice would be to  get up and walk around as soon as you are able, for me that was the next day,  my c/s was at 11:00pm the night before.  Stay on top of your meds,  I know everyone is different,  but for me it was the best and I would have another one!
