I think my child has OCD

she is obssesive about cleaning and picking up stuff. I am somewhat joking but she frets about things being messy and will throw a tantrum until we give her a paper towel or a washcloth to clean stuff. At least once a day she goes into the closet to get the broom and sweeps my floor for me. I kind of like it. She also hates when doors or cabinets are open and gets anxious until she can close them. I like the fact she is clean but tell me this is normal...I have a feeling it is. It is separated from the fact she wants to "help" us when we are cleaning.

  • I hope it's normal because Leo has some of the same tendencies. He has to put his cup on the exact same spot on his place mat and freaks if you move it. He also lines everything up. He has a weird obsession with shoes, you must have your shoes on. If he sees them sitting around he will bring them to you and insist you wear them.

  • I hope it's normal as well! Hunter has those tendencies when it comes to having something on his hands or face. Example: today at lunch he got ketchup on his hand, he refused to eat anymore until I gave him a wipe so he could clean his finger!

  • I've always heard this kind of stuff is normal.  Toddlers are working on "organizing" things... so lining up cars, shutting cabinet doors, remembering routines, etc... are all related to their brains building organizational skills.
  • Audrey loves to line things up, sort things, organize things. She thought it was "super fun" to help me pick up all the sticks and branches in the yard after the wind and ice we have had recently.
  • We say this about B all the time.  If he sees anything out of place, garbage or dog hair on the floor, he says, "yuck" and has to go pick it up and put it in the garbage.  He'll even notice things in stores or at other people's houses.  He is pretty obsessive about how his toys are lined up, too.  I think it's cute, and I'm very much the same way, so he comes by it honestly.  At least you know you're not the only one!

  • It is normal.  We are going through baby wipes and tissues like crazy because she always wants to have one to wipe things with.

Her funniest tendency is to put all of her crayons back in the box with the points sticking up.  Once she breaks a crayon, she MUST throw it away.
