What kind of playmats/bouncers/toys etc. are most people planning to get their babies? I've poked around on a few registries of people that I know and I think they're just asking for anything and everything because they have like 3 playmats, 3 bouncers of some sort, etc.
And, am I the only one that had never seen the doorway bouncer/jumper things? I'd never even heard of one until getting pregnant. I'm not sure how I feel about those.
Re: Playmats/Toys. etc.
Yes, I have a blog and it's hilarious (except when it's not)
And see this is why I don't understand why so many of the registries I pulled up have so many toys, dvds, etc. Most of them I saw were women in their mid 20s and first of their groups to have babies so most friends will think about the cute/fun factor buying the toys instead of necessities. I figure I'll register for like 2 things like that and the rest all necessities.
This is what we had for DD and she LOVED the heck out of it! It's not used in the doorway but does relatively the same thing.

ETA: She didn't use this jumperoo until she was about four months old.
I think a lot of people get trigger happy and register for everything without considering the practicality of having every item the store sells.
I already have a playmat. I registered for a bouncer, swing and exerciser. No jumper or walker. This was based on recommendations from moms, though some will say their babies loved the swing, hated the bouncer or vice versa. So, I think some of it is trial and error.
I felt like the toys were the most fun thing to register for, so there are a bunch on my registries.
(We're also against toys that require batteries and make noises/play songs and would rather have ones that require some imagination, so I wanted to register for the type we prefer if someone plans on buying toys.)
That's a great point though, that if you want certain kinds of toys you may as well register for them so you get what you want versus what most people will just pick up and buy because it's on sale at Target the week they're there.
We registered for a playmat and a jumparoo, and a few small toys that came highly recommended by friends (My Pal Violet, FP Soothe and Glow Seahorse).
I don't think there's anything wrong with putting some fun things on a registry, and I think people like buying that stuff. If we end up with all the toys and no bottles, we'll just go buy bottles.
I registered for the Graco Sweetpeace swing, which is a rocker/swing, for the first couple of months. Then I also registered for a bouncer, but its not the doorway kind. I'm not about to trust the handy work of the person that installed our doorframe with the safety of my baby. It would most likely be fine, but I don't like to take chances. Instead, I registered for the Baby Einstein Musical Motion activity jumper. The baby still will have plenty of entertainment, but I feel its a bit safer. We also registered for a Fisher-Price playmat, some teethers (because you do not want to be stuck in the middle of the night without one of those) and some on-the-go toys while we're out and about.
Why would somebody register for 3 playmats or bouncers? That's kind of crazy! Instead they could register for a variety of things and be more covered. Toys I especially wouldn't be too concerned with registering for, because people will just buy what they think is cute in that department anyway. Just throw a few basics on there and be done with it. That's JMO.

I originally had zero toys on my registry and was told that I needed to add a little more. At the time I only had about 50 items on my registry and with almost 50 people invited to my showers, I was told to bulk it up a little. Not to mention a lot of my items are less than $5.
We have already received the playmat as a gift and were also handed down a bouncy seat. We have registered for a swing and jumperoo as well. My mom insisted that we register for the MamaRoo, but it definitely is not one of my priorities. We have a Townhome and with the small footprint of the MamaRoo, it would be nice to have it upstairs, so I can put it in the Bathroom when I need to get ready.I feel that it is slightly redundant to register for the Swing and MamaRoo, but I guess we will just see how things turn out. We have all of the critical items and we are thankfully in a position where we can purchase the things that would make things easier.
Once baby is here and we determine likes and dislikes we may be inclined to purchase a second jumperoo for the upstairs. If we do it will be second hand
