Gallstones?

Anyone have gall stones after being pregnant?  I have to have my gall bladder removed and I was told it can be caused by being pregnant.  Just wondering if this has happend to anyone else?  Thanks

Re: Gallstones?

  • My sister had a problem with it, but never had to have hers removed, and a friend of mine had them but ended up getting stints instead of the removal. I am having issues after this pregnancy, but I changed my diet to lower fat foods, and I am doing a lot better so far.

  • I don't normally post here but this happened to me too. Thought I was having really bad heart burn at the end of my PG with DD, but 5 weeks PP (after a night in the ER) I had to have mine removed. It was a lap surgery and recovery was easy but my DH was home to help with our daughter. GL, JM

  • My pain started when I was pregnant. That is actually the reason that I went into the hospital was because of the pain from what turned out to be the gallbladder. My pain was so bad that I couldn't eat or lay flat. I ended up having my gallbladder taken out 2 weeks after delivery and had gallstones that I had to have removed also. I felt better instantly! I had never heard of the gallbladder problems until I had mine removed and then I heard of a lot more pregnant women who were having the same problems...Good luck!

  • This happened to me. About 3 weeks pp I went to the er for the pain and they found a stone. I haven't had an attack since (knock on wood!) But have a consultation with surgery in a few weeks. I am hoping to postpone the surgery if possible.

  • I got gallstones after I had my son, but I don't need to have my gallbladder removed though, unless it gives me trouble.  I had three attacks after my son was born, but I haven't had any in a month, so I'm hoping that's the end of them for a long time.

  • I had gallstones while pregnant and just had my gallbladder removed laproscopically this past Tuesday. My recovery has NOT been easy. Everyone told me it would be cake, out of the hospital the same day, minimal pain, being back to normal within a day or so. This has not been the case for me. It's only today that I don't need help getting up, walking or going to the bathroom. I still can't get out of bed by myself. I feel like I did a million crunches and my side hurts like I'm having an attack. I can't take deep breaths, cough or laugh without extreme pain. The gas pain in my shoulders was horrible and it's just now gone away. They gave me percocet, which does nothing but make me sleepy, doesn't even touch the pain. Take colace because you're going to need it. I was so constipated last night that I thought I broke the incisions open trying to go. My in laws are here to help and if they weren't I don't know what we would do because I can't lift my ds and I have to pump because I'm in too much pain to even try to breastfeed. To be honest, if I had known how difficult recovery would be, I never would have had the surgery. I'd rather eat low fat the rest of my life.

I'm not trying to scare you, but I don't want you to be under the illusion I was that recovery will be so easy because it's not that way for everyone.
