My mom apparently experienced this and keeps asking me if I have it yet - I don't. I read that it's less common in people with fairer skin, but I am not sure because my mom is very fair and I am not as fair. I do have fairer hair/eyes, though. Apparently 3/4 of us will experience it (according to the interwebz).
I'm light skinned but my moles are dark, my hair is dark, and if I'm in the sun for even a short time I get really really brown. I've had mine since before my bump---DH laughs because it really looks like someone took a marker up my belly...mine goes from my pubic bone to way above my belly button. Oh and mine is uneven! LOL!!!
Interesting...so I just googled this to learn more about it and came up with: "Researchers believe that there may be a link to intake of folic acid ? the more the mother has taken, the fainter the line may be."
I've been on 8mg/day of folic acid (yes, 8mg....it's prescription strength) since April 2010, and no hint of the line. I have medium colored skin with dark hair and dark moles, so I thought I'd be one of the first to get the dark line, but so far, nothing. I wonder if it's the folic acid keeping it at bay??

"Women with darker skin typically have a darker linea negra, though fair
skin does not preclude developing a dark line. Some women may have what
is called a linea alba, or a lighter, pale line. Researchers
believe that there may be a link to intake of folic acid ? the more the
mother has taken, the fainter the line may be. The linea negra has also
been tied to insulin levels, though neither of these connections has
been conclusively proven."
I never got it with my son but I already have it with this LO. I've actually had it for about a month now. I was surprised to see it but I like it haha. It's not too dark, but definitely visable!
I'll be getting it soon, I think I see a faint line now. I had it with DS. I am part Mexican and have olive skin, so it's normal in my family to get it.
I am extremely fair-skinned but my mom said last week that she could see the start of mine. I honestly don't see it yet but I'm with PPs: if it does appear, it will be another badge of motherhood.
Re: linea nigra
Mine is just a tan color so far, and very thin, but I can definitely see it!
Mine is also a tan color but very faint

I liked mine too ; )
Ive never had one, I get little hairs around my belly button but only like 5.
I wouldnt call them a badge of motherhood though, they go away a badge of pregnancy is more fitting.
Stretch marks are a badge of motherhood, those you're stuck with forever.
