anyone going for more ultrasounds

Right now, happily, it does not look like my doctor will order any additional ultrasounds - soooooo, I am considering going for a 3D on my own.  I want to see my little lady again.  I did not go before the anatomy scan but I think i want to now.

Anyone else...

  • I wish they weren't so expensive.

  • My OB doesn't offer the 3D/4D ultrasounds and so my insurance does not cover it. I'd have to go about an hour away to have it done and it's around $300.00 for like 3 pictures. I've had a few ultrasounds because they thought I was high-risk, and we've seen him a lot. I think I'll just let it be a surprise what he looks like. I'd rather spend the $300.00 on stuff for him rather than an ultrasound. I'm not against it... Just don't know if I want to spend that kind of money on just a few pictures. And, they might not even be able to see much. My fear is I'd spend a lot of money and they wouldn't be able to find/see anything.

Have fun and share your photos when you're done! I'd love to see how they turned out! Smile

  • I have another one at my OB's office in two weeks to check on whether the placenta has moved out of the way of the cervix.  I'm a little anxious about it because I really want the natural birth and want to avoid the c/s if possible, so I'm hoping for good news about the placenta, but regardless I'm excited for the opportunity to get another peek at the LO.

  • My doctor's office offers an optional 3D/4D ultrasound between 30-32 weeks. However, they wont bill insurance for it... so it will cost $150 out of pocket.

The scan is 15 minutes long, and they wont guarantee that there are "good" shots taken.

But for $150, DH and I have decided that we will go ahead and take them....

  • I'll have a growth ultrasound at 36 weeks, but that's the protocol at my OB's office.

  • My OB does an ultrasound at every checkup. She measures fluid levels and checks on baby's growth. I just saw my little guy on Monday and I go back in two weeks for another check-up (due to blood pressure) and I'll see him again. I have to say it's been nice getting an ultrasound every check-up, but last time she measured him and his stomach was measuring about 2 weeks behind the rest of his body. So that's been causing me some stress. She told me I needed to rest and drink more fluids and it should catch up. So I guess everything comes with a cost. At least we know what's going on with him and can continue to check that he's OK.

  • I have a 2nd anatomy scan on Friday. Doctor was not able to get some measurements during the first one, so he wanted to do another to check on the cord and check on growth. I have been constantly sick and he will use this ultrasound to determine whether or not to refer me to a nutritionist....

Depending on how this one goes will determine whether or not I have anymore. I thought the one in January would be my last one.

I don't know where in Indiana you live, but in St. John, IN (near Valporaiso) there is a place that does them for a lot cheaper than $300!

And yes, I have to go in for another u/s at 28 weeks because the baby didn't really cooperate the first time around, so the doctor couldn't get all of the pictures he wanted. I am just SO ready to find out the sex of this baby!

  • I'll be getting one between 30-32 weeks. I guess since my risk for Down's was elevated to 2% (and then dropped to less than 1%) due to my blood work, they want to make sure that the issue isn't related to the placenta. Also, the doctor mentioned that he saw some very minor fibroids that he figured he might as well check on. I'm looking forward to seeing my baby's face!

If I didn't have this u/s scheduled, I'd be considering doing a 3D out of pocket.

  • I have another one in 2 weeks to check her growth.  I would not pay for an extra one if I didnt need it.  Like PP said, I would rather spend the $ on baby stuff.

  • I have one scheduled in early April at 32 weeks to check if the placenta has moved up (it was low and close to my cervix at 20 weeks).

I will be asking my doctor about 3D ultrasounds at my next OB visit in a couple weeks...I don't want to dish out tons of money but I am not really sure what they charge here so we'll see if it's worth it.

  • I'll have another scan at approximately 28 weeks to monitor growth and rule out problems.  Although I'm excited to see her again, I wouldn't pay for another scan if it wasn't necessary.
  • As far as I know, the anatomy scan was my last one.  I doubt I'd pay for an elective ultrasound, baby will be here soon enough :)

Same for me, but mine will be at 32 weeks.  If I wasn't getting this one, I don't think I would pay for a 3D.  I'd rather use the money to buy baby stuff.

  • We are doing our 3D in a week! So excited! If we went to a hospital that let us know the sex, then we probably wouldn't have done it. We really want to know if we are having a boy or girl so it is worth it to us. It's just under $200 for 30 minute scan, a video set to music, and a CD with 50-75 pics. Plus a live online broadcast.

  • Like many other ladies, I'll have an official U/S at 30-32 weeks to make sure my placenta is moving up.  In the mean time, MH has taken a couple quick peeks and its amazing to see how much he's growing!  We just looked on Monday and he was so big!  He was moving around like crazy and because of the delay, I could feel him move before we saw it on the screen...he even had the hiccups for a little bit :)
  • I'm hoping at least one more, just so we can see if the cyst on her brain went away on it's own. Other than that, I don't know.

  • Yes but not electively. They found a potential problem with one of my guy's kidneys so I have a repeat US at 34 weeks. Sad
  • Yep. I will probably have 3-4 more. They do them for my cervical checks.
  • i had my anatomy scan at 20 wks and then another u/s at 22 wks because i fell. at my 22 wk scan they were able to get a few 3D shots for me! i will be having 1 more u/s at 35+ wks to determine baby's size/weight. at my hospital they will do 3D pics then. it is all included in my insurance.

  • I have one scheduled at 30-31 weeks to see the chubby baby.  They gave me a discount since I went to the gender one.  It's going to be $99 for 20 minutes with dvd and pictures.
Anthony Javier will be here soon!

  • Last one for doctors was my 18 week anatomy scan. We are going to GoldenView ultrasound (went there at 16 weeks for early gender check) at 29w5d. We get a 10 minute 3d/4d dvd, 2 4x6 3d print outs, 2 black and white print outs and a cd of all the pictures that were taken for 139. its worth it to me :-)

  • The ultrasound tech is going to know my life story by the time this baby comes! I have a weekly doppler study starting today (a type of ultrasound that specifically measures and charts blood flow) on the umbilical cord. The I have a growth ultrasound every 3-4 weeks to check on how she is growing (3rd percentile last week, about 10 dasy behind EDD) and in two weeks I have an echocardiogram because while they were more confident the heart is intact at my last appointment, they are having trouble gettting as clear a view as they want because of shadowing from one of the larger fibroids.

I've now been enough times that I am starting to repeat through the techs at the office so atleast there aren't the exclamations when they first see just what I mean by "huge fibroids" (one tech looked almost angry at me when he started measuring fibroids and said, "I can't believe you got pregnant." Thanks guy.)

I don't know if I would go for an elective if this wasn't all going on.... It is cool to see her so regularly but I wish it was under better circumstances.

  • I will have another at my 28 week appointment to check the location of my placenta to see if it has moved away from my cervix.  Since they charge and arm and a leg for them ($330 - and I'm not sure how much insurance covers), I will be politely asking to see the baby again and for some pictures.  It's too bad my OB's office doesn't have 3D/4D normally; my cousin's u/s through her normal OB were all 3D/4D and she's had probably 5 of them throughout her pregnancy.  Very cool to see the baby at different stages!

  • I have one on the 15th because the LO's kidneys were 2 different sizes at my anatomy scan and they want to re-check.

  • I will continue to have them every 2 weeks.  Between constant visits with my reg OB and my high risk OB, I have a dr's appt almost every week.  I want to have a 3D done, but my husband figures (correctly so, I guess) that we see her all the time, there's no need to pay for a 3D ultrasound as well.

  • I'm going to have a lot more to check that they're growing at similar rates.
  • I just had my anatomy scan, and shouldnt need to get anymore. I will be going to do a 3D/4D at an elective place here. Theyll give me a 4D package with pictures and a DVD for $135. Im going to send the DVD to DH

  • We'll have another "medically necessary" u/s every 4 weeks from here on out, as a result of the random scalp cyst on baby dudes head. I wish we didn't have to, it's so nerve wracking!

  • For the ladies in NW Indiana/Chicago area... We are hoping to go to First Peek in Oak Park soon. Only $59 for 15-20 minutes 3D ultrasound, CD of all 3D images, 2 color thermal image prints, and 9 assorted color prints (1 sheet), printed on photo-quality paper. Their reviews online were decent and for that price, I even convinced my Sweetheart! (They do have other packages, but that's the one we're going with.)

Oh my word! Thank you! The gender check is only $39 and I'm totally doing that! The cheapest I could find around here was $79! I'm so excited now. :) Haha!

  • We have one scheduled for April for growth.
  • I wish I didn't have to have any more ultrasounds. Our baby has a major heart defect, so we will have an ultrasound at 27 weeks and most likely another one about 35 or so weeks. I definitely wouldn't pay for one if it wasn't necessary.

  • We are not going for any more.  No non-medically necessary u/s for us.  Plus I think 3D u/s are creepy with a capital C.

  • after our anatomy scan we had to go to a specialist for the kidneys looked different then they were fine but he wouldn't show his heart so we had to go back 4 weeks after which was this week and now I have a cyst on my overy so they want me to go back for another in 6 weeks to check that which will be 30 wks then my ob does a growth one at 32 so I have had way more then I planned I am sure I am paying a pretty penny but luckily insurance is covering most of it.!!
