I'm switching from Lovenox to Heparin next week, and I was wondering if any of you ladies made the switch. Is it different to inject? More painful? Where do you inject? Any tips?
Hi I am on 1/2 cc of heparin twice a day. The Director of Nursing at my job told me that the injections needed to be done on the left or right side of your navel only. I alternate sides and I pinch the skin and then do my injection. After i have pushed the plunger down completely I wait a few seconds before pulling the needle out to keep from bleeding after I pull the needle out. When I complete the injection and pull the needle out immediately I tend to bleed at the injection site. I went through IVF and had to wear estrogen patches from the day of my embryo transfer on 1/30 to 2/14 so the areas where the patches were are still a little sensitive but the are getting better. Hope this helps.

I was on Heparin for a few weeks until my pharmacy straightened things out (my old OB simply assumed my insurance wouldn't pay for Lovenox, so I had to do the legwork to get it switched back to Lovenox). I like the needles better with Lovenox - the Heparin needles didn't enter the skin as smoothly (form what I remember the Heparin needles were shaped differently). I don't have any new tips Please come back and post if you find any after you;ve switched.
Re: Heparin tips?
I was never on Lovenox but did the Heparin injections in my stomach, alternating sides from morning/night.
It seemed to be less painful down towards my bikini line where I could pinch the most skin.
