  • I am not a fan of the 1st one.  I don't think that there would be enough of a contrast with the countertops.  I like the 2nd and 3rd.  Is your wall color the same as in the photo or have you or are you planning to change it?  That may sway my decision between 2 or 3.

  • Same color- same boring contractor color.

I agree with you about #1- I think it's too dark and it's a pretty big area.

  • #2 - warm and inviting -- just as a kitchen should be!  :)

  • None of them really make my skirt fly up.

My mom has a really cool looking copper-backed glass tile with her cherry cabinets. It looks really good and just different enough that people comment on it without it taking over the kitchen.

  • I like 2 and 3 for different reasons.  With your wall color, #2 would be more of a contrast and pop.  With #3, it will blend a bit more with the wall, but it has more detail and I like how the small pop of color in the dark squares ties into the counter.  It is more neutral and my personal style tends to lean a bit to the neutral side.

  • #3. The first is way too dark and the second is ho-hum.

  • I like this one, great for resale value (not sure if you are concerned about that) Yet rather calm for my taste so I would paint the wall a bold color, maybe a slate blue or green

  • This is mine (you can see the counters, cabinets and backsplash)

imageLook at my table so nicely decorated for fall -- HA!  This was PRE-kids obviously!  LOL

(wall color - which looks slightly "cooler" in this photo than what it really is.  It's a touch more gold in person.)

  • We're doing this pattern:

but different colors, it's a mix of glass and travertine.

  • Let's see if this works. Here's what we have. This was taken a long time ago and still during construction.

  • I am really loving the subway tile backsplash look lately.  Its very current, but also classic.

    Here are a few examples:

I think something light would look nice in your kitchen!

  • I'm liking yodajo's second pic and Lari's pic best so far.

Your 1 is too dark (lighter color, same tile?), 2 is too.. meh.  3 is nice but kinda what everyone has.  You seem like you'd need a bit more personality in there than those bring.

  • A agree with Yoda. I think that would look awesome!

I agree with KB on all of it. I'd like 1 in a different color. 2 and 3 are both meh and sort of cheap and dated to me.

I would go with either subway tumbled marble or a subway glass tile in a complementary color (or few colors).

We went with subway tumbled marble because it was cheaper than glass. We got it at Lowe's (they had several colors) and was in sheets so super easy to install (if you are doing it yourself, holy s, are you really doing it yourself?):
