I didn't - but I have a girlfriend that swears by the "ways of doing it" to get the preferred gender. Both times she followed the "ways" and got what she wanted....
I didn't but I'm curious to know what the ways are. I have a friend who desperately wants a girl and is on baby #6 (4 under 4!)...if it's not a girl I think she'll try at least one more time.
We didn't specifically try for one gender over another, we just tried for a baby....but after we knew the gender, looking over my charts, Both kids followed the rules of what to do to get each particular gender.
IF we go for 3, we will have a surprise gender baby and I will be curious to see if the same rules apply a third time.
Most of what I've heard are myths. Someone said that fast swimmers are generally boys and the slower swimmers are generally girls, but I'm not sure how much weight that holds either.
my husband researched info about how to conceive a boy, and we had one. That being said I think it's all BS, otherwise I would be researching how to conceive a girl right now!
I have a few friends who swear it works. We got to the point where we didn't care what we had as long as we finally got pregnant. However, when I looked at the "rules," our conception date was correct for having a girl. I don't know if I believe it, though.
There's a chapter in TCOYF that talks about how to maximize your chances one way or the other. Boy sperms are faster but they die off faster, girl sperms are slow, but they can live up to five days (i think). So if you're charting and know when you're going to O, you're supposed to have sex 4 and 3 days before ovulation if you want a girl, or 2 and 1 before (and day of) ovulation for a boy. Obviously it ain't foolproof. But I buy that it ups the chances.
Based on my chart I should have a Lydia and not a Nathan.
I'm 100% happy with what I got. I just hope he's not like today's Oprah and secretly thinks he's a girl. I'll love him all the same, but it's a diffiicult row to hoe.
WIth #2 we followed "the rules" for timing of sex to get a boy and got one. Looking back, DD was probably timed correctly for a girl using the same rules. If you want the rules, google Shettle's Method. I won't swear by it being 100% right on but am happy we at least attempted it.
Does this mean you're trying for another babe?! eeeek!!
Hoping to start TTC in June!! I would just LOVE a little girl, but I know if we have another boy that I will love him to bits also. TTC a little girl this time around though can't do any harm I think so it's interesting to hear what has worked for other people!
BTW - I think Isa needs a play friend too Miss J

FWIW, I personally think most "methods" of trying for a girl (positions, food, etc.) are pure crap. The timing thing makes legitimate sense to me, but the other stuff - not so much.

I tend to agree. I think the logic behind the foods is based on making your CM more acidic, which may kill off the boy-making sperm.

Considering it took me two years to get and stay pregnant, I didn't care about anything but a healthy baby. Gender was a moot point -- and still is. For every reason that I can think of that I want a girl next time, I can think of one why I want to have another boy!
Well, here's the thing... for every person that says it worked, there is at least one person who it didn't work for. 50/50 chance regardless of methods. That's just the way it is. Looking at swaying info, both my girls should be boys. I wouldn't put much stock in it, its just luck of the draw! The only fool proof way is gender selection (PGD), which is available in certain states (I think Seattle has a clinic), but costs a lot of money. I only know about this because we'd love a little boy, but definitely not enough to shell out over $20K for it. Good luck!

Are you planning on trying soon?

I didn't, but my sister did. She did the foods, positions, and timing all for a girl... three times. She has 3 boys. I wouldn't put much faith in it.
So, as some ladies have asked, does this mean you are thinking of trying?
