Thoughts on Mariana and Emilia?

My mother has been thowing names at me left and right! Heard two different ones tonight. Not sure if i like or dislike.

what are your thoughts on Mariana and Emilia?

I guess Emilia is just Amelia but with an "E", right? I am not a fan of funky spelling because my mom had to spell my name differently.

Mariana seems like a very classic name to me....

Emilia isn't a funky spelling. It's a perfectly legitimate Italian one.

I love Emilia, but I think Marianna is a little over the top. I prefer Marion/Marianne.

Is it supposed to be Mary-Anna or Mary-Ahna? I've heard of Mariana (with the aah sound as opposed to a like in bat) so just curious. Either way I like it better than Emilia/Amelia which is super popular where I live now.

I guess neither name is really my style, but I don't see anything particularly wrong with either of them. I knew a Mariana in college and always liked her name and thought it suited her, as well.

GL with choosing a name! Just be sure to go with something YOU love!

Your mom has fantastic taste. I love Emilia a lot more than Amelia (and to me they're two different pronunciations).

Emilia is a legit name and spelling.

I actually like both of them. Emilia more so than Mariana.

I like all of your names so far, except Kaitlyn. My favorite is still Gabrielle or Juliet, I think. Emilia is very pretty too

I can't help it! The name that i really love is Juliet, but my husband has made it very clear that he can not stand that name....and i love alot of different names, but none as much as I love Juliet. So i keep trying to find one better then Juliet!

I very much love Gabrielle and Emilia (or Amelia, this one will be debated later i'm sure!). Kaitlynn was my husband's idea and have officially ruled that one out. I just keep posting names to see how "comfortable" i get with a name from hearing it and thinking about it.

Hopefully my obsession with finding a name better then Juliet will stop soon! I think I have a "thing" for Shakespeare names though!

I'm with you. Mariana is too sugary sweet for my taste. I love Marianne though.

Amelia/Emilia always makes me think of mealworm. Not a fan.

Better than my moms suggestions of "Clarity" and "Sharyn" Indifferent

I like Marianna I like names that end in an "a" though. I too think of mealworms when I hear Amelia/Emilia.

Marian is also pretty.

I like both, but obviously LOVE Emilia since I have one! We are always getting compliments on her name and although I was nervous about the spelling, people actually really like it. Our reasons for the "E" spelling are these... I think E is a beautiful letter. I like the nn Emmy over Amy, even though i will only ever call her Emilia. When I was pregnant this freaked me out....( a birth defect called Amelia syndrome. I know - morbid, but it was in my head)

My family is Italian. We say "Eh-Meal-ya" not "Ahh - meal-YA"...a bit less "Ahhhs". When you say it fast it sounds the same anyway. DH really wanted the name Emily and this was a fair compromise, which he is now very happy about. HTH!

I like both. We have considered Mariana as a mn since it incorporates so many family names for us (Marie, Maria, Marion and Anna!!)

And I actually prefer the E spelling for Emilia. I like that it can be shorted to "Em".

It's ok girl! Regardless of what people say, I think the point of a baby names board is to discuss BABY NAMES! I'm with you, this is SUCH a tough decision.

Love Marianna it is my god daughters name. It is a legit normal italian name. I prefer Emilia over Amelia and pronounce them differently. I love most italian names so either one is a winner to me.
