Pregnant after a Loss

Major freakout, spotting, Dr., and a Belly Pic (long)

I woke up this morning to some brown spotting (just when I wiped). Cue the major heart attack.

I told myself to relax & if it continued or worsened, I'd call the Dr.

Around 12:30 at work (students were at their special class), I noticed that I had some more brown & a few spots of brown on my underwear. I called the Dr. immediately. They told me to come in right now. That freaked me out.

I called the office of my school and said I had to leave, & started crying while explaining myself.  The assistant principal came in and told me to relax and she would cover my class for the rest of the day. She then asked me to call or email her with an update. (side note: I have the world's most supportive bosses. They are such great people)

At the Dr.'s office, I had an ultrasound and a cervical check. The u/s revealed a happy little dumpling of a baby, hb 149, measuring 16w2d. S/he had her hands over her face, probably hiding from a freaked out mama. The interesting thing about this u/s is that the Dr. used the femur to determine the baby's size, rather than the crown to rump, as she did previously. She said s/he is straightened out now, no longer curled up.

When she checked my cervix, she said it was long and closed. She feels that the brown blood was so old that it was from implantation. WTF? That was 14 weeks ago! She said it gets stuck up there and eventually has to come out. Ok, if you say so, lady. Then she told me to go home and rest because my blood pressure and anxiety were too high. Tell me about it.

So the outcome is I am fine (freaked out and relieved) and the baby is fine. I think I realized today how very much I love this baby & that my world would be destroyed if I were to lose it.

Ok, since you've made it this far into the post, I reward thee with some pics of my royal fatness. The first pic is from 10 weeks. The second is from 16 weeks (this morning). Can you see a difference?

ETA: I know the one on the right is a closer photo, giving me appearance of greater girth in that one.

  • I see a BIG difference!!! LO is a growing!!! Oh, and the same exact (down to crying at school and having to leave and tell my wonderful principal) thing happen to me at 17 weeks. Brown blood. I freaked too. They only did a doppler check for me though. I wish they would have done a cervical check and u/s but I got to see LO the very next week at my anatomy scan and he was looking good! I am glad everything looks good with your LO as well!
