Two Under 2

How important is a good stroller?

I am getting ready to have two under two and I am saving my money for a bumbleride indie twin. I am nervous about spending so much money on it...how important is a good stroller?

I SAHM part time and am a teacher so I will be home all summer and am looking for something for long walks. I hate taking a stroller into crowded places so a lot of times I babywear also. I have a Graco single stroller right now and quite frankly it kind of sucks for long walks.

We are really purhcasing very little for the new baby minus some diapers and baby supplies so I am feeling that makes it a little better to justify the purchase?

THoughts?? :o

Re: How important is a good stroller?

  • IMO having a great stroller that fits your lifestyle is key.  We went through several strollers before finding the city select (which works for our family).  We didn't want to spend that much for a stroller but ended up hating about 3 other strollers before buying this one.

  • I didn't use my stroller much for DD1 (she hated it), so we're not getting a double.  We've gotten by so far with 2 strollers or babywearing.  I think this summer we might get a wagon or something.

I agree with this.  I live in a city and walk nearly every day.  With the weight of two kids, even if I'm wearing one of them, it becomes more difficult to push a stroller.  The Graco we had before we got our double had small plastic wheels and it was a chore to push when I was pregnant.  I can't imagine a comparable stroller with two kids in it!

  • A good carrier (ergo) has been crucial. We're just now starting to dust off the stroller.

  • I definitely needed a good double stroller. I think it really does depend on your lifestyle and your kids. My ds#1 was 23 months when ds#2 was born, and he is not a mellow kid :) So, trusting him to walk right beside me at all times or stay in a sit n stand wasn't an option. I wore ds#2 in the ergo a lot, but it was hard to lift ds#1 into swings and things like that with ds#2 strapped to me. I still use our double all of the time (boys are 1 and 3yrs now).
  • I am going to wait and see if it's something we need once LO #2 gets here. I've gone back and forth on the double stroller debate, researching them, etc. etc. I really think, for me, I'm just going to have to seen when the time comes. LO #1 doesn't really like the stroller to begin with so I hate to buy a double and never use it. We hardly use our regular one now. I do plan on purchasing a good baby carrier and am hoping to get buy on that for awhile with our single when we need it. Who knows, though! We are really trying to save money so I'm just really hesitant to spend a lot on a double stroller, if we end up not liking or using it a lot.
  • For me I always say I'm not sure how I would have managed without my Phil & Ted Sport.  Honestly that thing made it easy for me to take both girls out and not worry about LO#1 running off or whining about being tired or pulling things off shelves in stores, etc.  And if I had to nurse LO#2 in public, I knew LO#1 couldn't run off if she was in the stroller.  Plus because it pushes SO easily (more easily than my single stroller did!) I could have my cup of coffee and managed everything without struggling and adding anymore difficulty to my day.  I really believe it's worth every penny we paid for it and would do it again in a heartbeat.  Plus since we didn't really buy anything else for LO#2, it didn't seem like such a big thing to buy.
  • I love my Blumbleride Indie! But cannot justify buying the twin.. way too much money. Our friends gave us a kolcraft options. I am planing to wear the baby and push my daughter in the single indie. for now.. than maybe get a sit and stand
  • For me it was a necessity from the beginning.  It might not be that way for you, though.  If you're worried about the expense, you could always save for it now and wait to purchase.  Have you ever ordered from diapers.com?  If not, you can get 15% off your first purchase and save a bit that way.  Or...if you have a willing and able friend/family member (if you've already purchased from the site), you could have them order it for you and pay them directly.  Just a suggestion to get around that loophole!  Smile

PS -- We have the Indie Twin and I think it's my favorite 2u2 purchase.

  • I am with you completely - I would rather spend good money on something that I really need than buying a bunch of extra stuff I don't.  Luckily, I was able to buy very little to nothing for DD2, and suprisingly and also for this one, which is a boy!  The kids wear and use tons of hand me down clothes, toys and gear, so I'm able to splurge on what really matters to me, like a good stroller.  We've spent thousands on strollers over the years, but it's our main mode of transportation, and saves my sanity, as I've been able to be out and about during all of my various 2U2's...

  • Very important! I have a cheap double and I feel like I am pushing 5 kids instead of 2 lol. Then I have my city mini which feels much much lighter and easier to push. Makes a big difference.

  • For me, it has been critical. I use our City Select every single day if not multiple times a day. My daughter is still at the age where she will run away from me in public so if its just me out with both kids (which it often is) she must be in the stroller. Im not huge into baby wearing so it has been worth every penny to have this stroller.
