Thomas just won't hold his own bottle???

Thomas is almost 11 months and he does everything...holds his own sippy; crawls, walks; dances; waves buy; even knows how to greet people by bowing; but he just doesn't hold his own bottle. Isn't that wierd? Or is it normal?

I think it is normal ; )

I was laughing at my youngest at bedtime the other night.. he was waiting for me to hold his sippy cup so he could drink.. ummm he typically holds it ; ) but I was gone for a couple of hours in the evening before bed.

My first was like this too.. it took him forever to hold his sippy cup at night - he actually never held his own bottle ; ) I think it is something they get use to since we have always held it.

Normal. We BF'd but gave M a sippy full of water when he was pretty young, and he didn't drink from his sippy without help until he was embarrassingly old... like well after a year.

Michael holds his but just can not get the idea that he needs to keep his head tipped back to drink so he ends up sucking on the empty nipple until I push on the bottom to get his head to go back.

Aaron never held his own bottle.

That's actually the main reason why I cold turkey-ed it. I was tired of holding his bottle for him to drink milk. He'll hold a sippy and drink water. But only milk from a bottle and only if I held it.

Normal. DS could but refused to. He always held our fingers with one hand and his blankie with the other.

Leah won't hold hers either, unless she wants to play with it. She's getting better with the sippy but still forgets to tilt it back to drink.

I think this is normal because I've heard of a lot of other babies not holding their bottle. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I love that he bows when he greets people. So cute!

My DS never learned how to hold his own bottle, or he just didn't care to. I weaned him off bottles at 12 months, so it became a moot point after that. He never had a problem with sippy cups.

My first held his and we just had to show him how a handful of times. Victor won't hold his, but I think it's because his bottles are so wide and it makes it a lttle more difficult. He can hold his sippy, but it's the kind with handles on both sides. As a matter of fact, I recently got a snack cup that has the same type of handles and he tried to drink out of it. Silly, but I felt bad for unknowingly teasing him.

Jason didn't hold his bottle either, but he held his soppyt cup.

My DS has no desire to hold his bottle. He will hold it in his hands and put his head over it and suck the nipple, getting air. When I tilt it back for him, he drops his hands as if to say - ah, thanks...I don't have to hold on to that bottle!

He also will sit there with his mouth open waiting for the bottle. He does hold the sippy cup though (handles), sometimes one handle sometimes both. He is still trying to learn to tip the cup though.

Sorry - but, I got stuck on this. Please, please video this and post it. I absolutely LOVE that he does this.

I agree with PPs and think it's pretty normal.

Neither of my kids (2.5yr and 17mos) ever held their bottle. So I personally do not think it is weird or anything to be nervous about.
