EC 5 Wk Old

I really like the idea of EC'ing my 5 week old son and have taken him to the toilet and his little potty and had a few catches.  The problem is he get's really mad on either the toilet or the potty.  He doesn't really like to be naked (and it's not cold in the house) so that is a problem but he also get's upset when he has to go in his diaper.  I think he really just doesn't like going to the bathroom.  Going in his diaper he gets fussy but on the potty he screams and yells.  Should I keep putting him on the potty even though it makes him upset?  I haven't done it in about a week because he gets so mad and I don't want to traumatize him about using the potty.  Any thoughts?

Re: EC 5 Wk Old

  • We sang silly songs to Atticus when he was little and that helped get though the fussy times.

  • Have you tried just holding him over the potty and giving him a cue? We got a book and there are some pictures in it that might help, not sure if you can find any on the net.  He might not like sitting down... Just a thought. We probably started around the same time and she didn't really seem to care for sitting on the potty either. but she hated going in her diaper! we always knew when she was wet.

  • I always hold him over the potty, I don't sit him on it because it is cold.  I cue him but it takes a while for him to go and in the meantime he's screaming so I just give up and put him in a diaper.
  • S would do this too.  I stopped taking him to the potty and started cueing him into his diaper during changes.  We got quite a few "catches" that way.  I think that's the big thing in the beginning -- understanding the cueing, regardless of where you do it.  Now that he's a bit older, we've been using the potty again without the screaming.
