Doc prescribed Progesterone Suppository

Anyone else used this before? I had a LEEP in 2007 and the doc just noticed my cervix was shorter from my 17 week u/s from my 21 week u/s. I am picking up the Progesterone Suppository today.

I am just so super nervous about everything now. I also teach and am on my feet all day..... should I be concerned about this??

  • what is your cervix measuring?

i've been on progesterone suppositories once a day since 23 weeks when i had a sudden (big) drop in my cervix.  i've had no side effects except some nasty discharge from them.

  • The doc said my cervix measured 3.6 at 17 weeks and is now between a 2.4-2.8 at 21 weeks.

    Are the suppositories helping?

I just found out all of this info today, so I am very uneasy. I knew there could be a chance of my cervix shortening since I had the LEEP done, but finding out I have to be closely monitored and put on meds is scary :(

  • I had a LEEP in 2005 and am also on progesterone supplements (but I take 2 orally instead of 1 as a suppository).  It is scary and I hate taking them but I have to keep reminding myself that it is helping my baby and that is the most important thing.  From what I understand, the supplements doesn't actually lengthen the cervix, but they make the mucus plug stronger (since some of the cervix that makes the plug were removed during the LEEP).  I am also a teacher (5th grade) and I have been teaching 100% from my chair for the past 6 weeks.  (It also helps that I have a student teacher that is now teaching full time.)

umm..i'm not sure if it's "helping".  i thought it was cause my first 3 weeks on it i had such great "increase".  but mainly it's helps with "keeping the uterous quiet" and "strengthening the mucus plug".

  • I used them twice a day for 12 weeks. They were gross, a little messy, but manageable. I also teach (SPED) and am on my feet all day so I made sure to take the first one very early in the morning (I'm not sure what I did wrong but once one kind of "fell out" and I couldn't attend to the problem right away. eek!)  I was on them for a different reason though.
