It's "Lila" NOT "Lylah"

This is what I constantly have to correct even though I gave her the correct spelling of her name.  I guess since you-neek name spellings are now used more than the actual correct spellings, you-neek is now the new normal.  Vomit.

Re: It's "Lila" NOT "Lylah"

  • I think I'm going to start calling her Billy. Okay? Stick out tongue

Honesty, WTF is up with people? How difficult is it to check with the parent(s) if you aren't certain of the spelling. Are people sending you cards with her name misspelled?

  • Billy = Yes

I had several people announce her birth and photos on their own FB pages (before I even had the chance to do it) and of course they spelled her name wrong.  One of the cards we received was to "Baby Girl" because I suppose Lila is super hard to spell (but at the same time I appreciated it more than Layla, Lyla or Lylah).  Ugh.  Today when I called her doctor to make her 1 month appointment, they couldn't find her because the appointment setter was looking for a Lylah.

And while I'm complaining about things that don't really matter, I think unnecessary H's are my biggest pet peeve about you-neek name spellings.  Seriously, my mom who does in home childcare watches a girl named Khyndhal (Kendal).  Rule #973 to giving your child a you-neek name: add an H before each vowel.  Confused

I hate extra letters...and random punctuation.

Hmmmm. So you're saying we should've left the two periods out of W's name on his birth certificate. Crap.
  • How annoying! Some of our baby cards were for "Norah" but I understand why people might misspell it, with Norah Jones, etc. But I always spell names, always, when I'm on the phone with people. For example: "Hi, I'm calling to make an appointment for Nora, N-O-R-A."

looks like her parents took a spelling lesson from the Kardashians.

I would never even try to spell Lila any other way.  What is wrong with people?

  • Thanks for this PSA, my Lila appreciates it too.  People also seem to have a hard time pronouncing it - it is not "LEEELA" it is LIIIIIILa.

I've also seen her name spelled Lilla.

  • My niece's name is Leila (leela), but she gets called Lila all the time.

I think people just are really stupid.  Really.

  • Oh man, some of the names that people come up with....I could write an entire book.
  • So can I tell you I just spent a good two minutes trying to figure out the different pronunciation for Lila and Lylah....I would laugh at myself, but I think I should just be laughed at right now. duh.
