Success after IF

I POAS for the first time ever yesterday...

and it said "Pregnant"!  I am in complete shock and I'm kind of terrified.  We've been discussing when to go back to try IVF again for a 2nd baby and thought we might do it in the fall.  Now if everything works out, we'll be having another baby in the fall instead.  We haven't been preventing since our son was born because we would rather have babies closer together than have to do IVF again and because we didn't think we'd ever get pregnant on our own.  It's been 5 years since we've used any type of birth control and I've never had any reason to take a HPT except when we were seeing the RE and then I just waited for the betas everytime.

I find the 1st trimester terrifying.  Last time I had several bleeding scares, but we had the reassurance of ultrasounds to let us know everything was ok.  We won't have that this time unless I bleed again (which I really hope I don't) and I won't even get a chance to hear a heartbeat until 12 weeks.  Then we have to wait until 16 weeks to see a peri to see if they baby's kidneys are ok.  My son has a kidney problem and we learned during that pregnancy that we have a 50% chance of any future baby having a kidney problem and a 5% of a problem that is incompatible life as they so nicely put it.  On top of all of this, I'm supposed to have knee surgery soon so that will have to be cancelled and I'm worried my knee won't hold up to all of the extra weight.  I don't care about my discomfort, but I'm concerned about it giving out while I'm pregnant and falling or having trouble taking care of my son.

So if everything goes well then we'll have two babies 18 months apart which is kind of freaking me out as well.  My son still gets up 3 times a night and I'm wondering how I will handle it if I have two children that have horrible sleep habits.  I know I'm getting way ahead of myself because I'm only around 5-6 weeks pregnant and anything could happen.

Ok, sorry if this is a long, rambling mess because my mind is going in every direction right now and I have to get it out somewhere.  I am so excited and still completely shocked!  I hope so much that this pregnancy sticks and my little boy gets to be a big brother.  I think I would be 12 weeks on my son's 1st birthday so he might have to have a 1st birthday shirt and then change into a big brother shirt so we can tell everyone in person this time!!!

It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • wow!  congratulations!!!  Are you able to call your RE for any reassurance?  I know a lot of people here that have gotten surprise BFPs were able to get in for betas or early ultrasounds with their RE :)
  • YEAH!!!! Congrats!

  • Big Congrats! I am sure it is a lot to take in right now but I am sure it will all be good. Is there anyway you can call your RE and see if you can get a beta for peace of mind? I know a lot of people who get surprise BFP's are able to get in to see them.

  • Wow, that's awesome!!! Congrats!

PS - I hope you don't mind me asking, but what was your Dx? I just got off BCP - not to TTC, but we will again at some point (I hope!) on our own for a while & I was jw.

  • Wow, congratulations!  I hope it is an uneventful and easy pregnancy!

Thanks!  Our diagnosis was unexplained so we didn't really know if there was a possibility of getting pregnant on our own, we just assumed there wasn't much hope since it had never worked before.

  • Congratulations!! I had a surprise BFP and went back to my RE early for a few u/s before graduating on. Good luck!!!
  • Thanks everyone!  If I get too antsy I might give my RE a call and see if they'll do an ultrasound, but I'm really trying to be a normal pregnant woman this time if at all possible so I'm going to try to wait like everyone else does!

  • Congrats!!  It is scary thinking of all of the changes, but that is why pregnancy is 9 months...your DS will be a different child by the time #2 is born, so don't worry about his sleep habits now - they will (hopefully) be different by then!

It is hard work having 2 under 2, but also so much fun.  I wouldn't have it any other way :)
