s/o music & kids

Does anyone not play special kids music? I just play what I normally would and J is just fine with that (knows no different). Obviously I don't play songs with dirty lyrics (get DH to download clean versions) and I play a lot of Christian radio in the car, but I just have never been one to do kid music for him.

I was in the car with a friend of mine & her daughter the other day and thought I was going to DIE listening to the kids CD she had playing. Seriously my ears probably started bleeding!

  • At home we listen to Pandora a lot, and I used to just play the country radio in the car. Recently we started the Little People cd and he LOVES it. The minute we get in the car he says, "Music ON!" I usually adjust the speakers in the car to play in the back more than in the front.

  • Yeah, for us, it started with me putting the YGG albums on my iPod, because I knew she'd love listening to it (and that it would keep her quiet and happy). It turned into her asking for it EVERY time she's in my car, and now to the point where she demands to hear certain songs. LOL. She's become obsessed with YGG in general (seriously, our dinner time conversations always involve Toodee and Muno lately), so we're currently taking a break (from watching it on TV too).

She's fine with listening to regular music, but seeing how excited she gets when we have a dance party to songs she recognizes from school (we play a pretty annoying CD of kids' songs she got for her b'day) made me want to get some more tolerable versions of those songs for her to enjoy in the car.

We don't have a DVD player yet, so it's kind of our alternative to that. Though I would reserve a DVD player for longer trips, and I let her listen to her music pretty much whenever. But it has to be non-annoying (surprising to some, YGG does not annoy me. hehe)

  • I dont do just my music or just his. Depending on where we are going and what his mood is sometimes I will put on a CD for him and other times its something I choose and he's just fine with what I choose and will sometimes shake his lil body and try and dance in his car seat. but i'd love to find some more adult friendly kids music then YGG, etc. to mix things up for him!

  • I have several kids music CDs that we were given that we use at home.  She loves to listen to it and asks for it "music on".  We don't listen to it all the time though and lot of the time, we'll have Christian radio on since it's way more tolerable for my ears.  But I have found that for long car rides or when she's obsessed with being hungry (right after preschool or going to the Y), if I play some kiddie music, she concentrates on that instead of being hungry which is nice for me.  I'd rather listen to "head shoulders knees and toes" then R crying and saying "snack, juice, eat, eat."  Smile  But we listen to plenty of adult music too.

  • I would say that we mostly listen to my music. Maddie actually gets excited when I play my Glee or Wicked CDs. But I got the Little People Wheels on the Bus CD when she was little to stop fussies or to keep her awake on the way home from places. She loves that CD, but it does get a little annoying after the 200th time. I LOVE her Laurie Berkner CD though- sometimes if it's already playing I'll listen to it even if she isn't in the car, lol.

  • We just never got started on kids music - I'm not a huge fan of most of it, and if I am going to have to listen to something over and over again, it needs to have a little complexity. :)

Will loves Christmas music (asks for it in the summer...bless his heart!), and really likes Michael Buble.  Cracks me up.

He likes oldies too, thanks to my mom :)  Loves the Beach Boys!

  • We mostly listen to my music.  I haven't had my ipod in the car in a few months, so I've just been listening to G105 when I drive.  When I have my ipod, it's about 75% my music, 25% his, and it just shuffles, so it's not all one or the other.  He doesn't complain either way, but he gets very excited when one of his songs comes on, so I don't mind having a little kids music in there for him! :)

  • In my car we listen to 95% my music, which is usually oldies and classic rock.  I do have Laurie Berkner's greatest hits but O doesn't seem to care what I have on.  In DH's car we have XM and he keeps it on Disney or Kids Live for O whenever we are in the car.
