Help me find some tolerable kids' music. :-)

Ok, I'm officially Yo Gabba Gabba'd out :-) I'm trying to add some new playlists on my iPhone for Holly to listen to while we're in the car.

I have some Laurie Berkner, and I have some oldies, and non-kiddie music that she likes. But I'd like to add some classic songs she's familar with--Ring Around the Rosie, BINGO, If You're Happy and You Know It, Old MacDonald, Itsy Bitsy Spider, etc... I'm having trouble finding any that aren't super annoying.

Anyone know of any covers of these types of songs that aren't sung by kids...or Barney? Big Smile Or better yet, sung by someone I might actually recognize as a "real" artist?

  • Hehe.  I don't know if this meets your standards, but we have some by the Wiggles, in addition to Laurie Berkner and YGG.

  • Jack Johnson's Curious George soundtrack is pretty good, from what I hear. I usually listen to the celebrity guest songs on Sesame street (on youtube, so not quite the same thing as what you're asking) since they're technically for kids, but not going to cause ear bleeding ;) GL!
  • I like Jack Johnson's music. We also like this CD, "For the Kids." My favorite song is the La La Lemon song by Barenaked Ladies. Caleb loves our FP Little People CD and usually yells at me if I attempt to put anything else on....

  • I have the Disney Classics 1-5 or 6 or whatever it is...it's songs from various Disney movie soundtracks. That's one of the few kid themed things I can really tolerate listening to. I also have the Disney's Tarzan soundtrack (Phil Collins mostly) and a few others. I've been YGG'd out for a while now - it's bad when you wake up singing about not biting your friends.
  • Luke likes Elizabeth Mitchell's stuff. She does some classic songs and has some of her own as well. They are fairly mellow. We also have a jazz for kids album that he likes that has Ella Fitzgerald and some other recognizable singers on it. Those are probably his two least annoying cds.
  • They Might Be Giants have a couple of kids CDs (No, Bed Bed Bed, Kids Go!, Here Come the ABCs, Here Come the 123s, etc.)  And Barnaked Ladies has Snack Time.  After looking around a bit on Amazon, there's another one called "For the Kids" that has various artists doing kid's songs (including my favorite Tom Waits!)  Also, Johnny Cash has a children's album, who knew!
  • Have you discovered the Sandra Boynton books yet? link love here.

  • Zoe likes to dance to 80's music (there's an 80's music channel on our cable and my satellite radio in the car).

Love Barenaked Ladies and They Might Be Giants songs for kids! I also just downloaded some stuff by Bill Harley, my favorite being "Walk Around the Block." DS also really likes the Jack Johnson songs from the Curious George movie.

We use TWC for television, so when I've got the Toddler Tunes channel on and I hear something I like, I turn write down the song title and artist then download it on i-tunes.

    GL!
