Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Those that BF but don't nurse to sleep...

I have a question.  I nurse DD to sleep every night.  Not really to sleep, drowsy but awake.  But I have the lights out and nursing is the last thing I do before I put her in the crib.  I want to try and change that now so when I wean from the night feeding, we have a different schedule.  I was thinking of bath, nurse, book, then bed.  Then it would change from nurse to a sippy of milk.  But I want to try it now....not when I take away the last feeding in about 2-3 months.

My question is:  what is your night routine if you don't nurse to sleep??  TIA!

  • DS plays until he gets his bottle of pumped milk before bed. It's the one daddy gets to feed him. Then we both take him upstairs, change his diaper, jammies on ,kisses, goodnights, and lay him down. DS is a very good sleeper!

  • I broke DS of nursing to sleep by waking him up after nursing and reading him books, then putting him down awake and standing by his crib to soothe him to sleep.  After about a week he got so he'll go to sleep on his own without crying (or if he does, it's less than a minute) and it has improved his nighttime sleep and naps tremendously.  He still wakes up 1x/night to nurse but it's way better than it used to be.

  • 6pm -dinner Solids

645- diaper change, jammies, book, bed

My DD stopped wanting her milk feeding at around 9 mo she was getting pumped milk then anyways. If I think she needs it I'll give her a bottle after diaper change and jammies but before the book.

So you weaned her from her night feeding at 9 months?  Interesting.  I asked the questiong b/c I feed DD solids at 6pm and usually nurse a little over an hour later.  I didn't want to do it any sooner than that because I thought I would be giving her tummy too much.  That's why I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to alter her night routine.

  • I nurse, then sing to her while I change her diaper/put on pi's and brush her teeth. Then a kiss goodnight! :)

  • From 9-12 months, our routine was:

    5pm - dinner

    6:45 - nurse

    brush teeth, book, bed

I just cut out the last nursing session tonight and just offered her a sippy of milk while we read a book instead of nursing, then brush teeth, another book, bed. It seemed to go ok although she didn't drink much milk and had a bit tougher of a time falling asleep.

well she weaned herself! She just started refusing her bottles around then so we figured she was done with them. Like I said occasionally she will nurse before bed but it is usually if there is a longer stretch between dinner/bedtime for whatever reason
