Sidecar question

I'm usually a lurker to these post (I couldn't post anything at my job, but now I'm a stay at home mom). I have a question in regards to sidecarring the crib.

We have bedshared/sidecarred the crib for my 8month old for the last 5 months. My little monkey has figured out how to pull up on everything and anything including the crib. My DH and I are both worried about him flipping over the edge. The mattress is at its highest level due to the height of our bed, so I can't really move it down without a gap.

Any tips or is it time to put the crib back together? Both DH and I really enjoy the snuggles, so I'm not sure I want to stop bedsharing. TIA!

Re: Sidecar question

  • Yeah, we're dealing with the same thing & I was going to write a similar post on this board soon for some advice!

I know for us putting the crib back together is not going to be the solution. We tried that about two months ago because DS was crawling all over the bed & I was worried he was going to fall out.  Well the crib being up lasted 2 nights & none of us got any sleep because he really wants to be with mommy & not have the crib rails in between us. And I don't blame him.

The last few nights I've not been putting DS in the sidecar at all (he's rarely in there for any length of time anyway), I've just been leaving him in our bed & sleeping with my arm around him.  That way if he moves, I feel him & wake up. It's not the best night of sleep for me, but at least I know he's safe. What I'd really like to do is put our mattress & the crib mattress on the floor, but I don't think DH would be too keen on that.

So yeah, no advice here. But let me know if you come up with anything that works!

  • We're planning to lower the mattress and elevate the crib on bed risers like you'd use in a dorm room. I think StarlitRN is doing that already, if I recall correctly.

Yep, we already have our crib on bed risers to make it level with our bed as is.  So that's not an option for us, as I don't want to stack bed risers one on top of the other.  But that may definitely be an option for OP!
