I am currently 30 weeks and was put in the hospital last Friday with strong and consistent contractions. They gave me motrin and eventually magnesium sulfate to stop the contractions which finally subsided and were down from 3-5 minutes apart to 30 minutes apart. Friday night my cervix measured 4 cm which was great. Sunday morning my cervix was 2.9 and the FFN test came back positive. Sunday night I ended up having more contractions close together and they had to give me fluids and staydol which helped them stop. I was sent home Tuesday morning and have been on bedrest all week. I've still had some contractions here and there but nothing at all close and consistent like last Friday. I've also had contractions for several weeks before as well.
I go for a followup appointment tomorrow afternoon to see if I will be able to get off bedrest and see what the next steps will be since I'm still not near ready to deliver. I've been lurking on this board all week and you all seem to have great advice so I'm curious what you think will come of this appointment. Do you think I'll be able to get off bedrest from what you've seen in the past? Thanks for your input!
Re: Question about getting off of bedrest
I don't have experience in your shoes, but I do have one bit of advice:
The cervix and contractions all have a mind of their own. One week I'll feel great, and have not so great results, another week I feel awful, and things look good. Just remember to take it all in stride, there are just as many ups as their are downs, and remember. Yes - bedrest stinks, but what better than to give your LO the best headstart you can in life?
So even if you don't get off bedrest, just know that you are doing the best you can to help your LO bake as long as possible, and if and when the time comes, know you did all you could! Good luck at your appointment!
only your Dr knows what you need but with your cervix shortening, contractions and a +FFN I would guess you would probably stay on bedrest but then again what do I know, I'm no doctor and don't know all your details.
Good luck with everything and keep that baby bakin'

I agree with this. You'll probably be on bedrest for a while. But, the good news is that you're already at 30 weeks, so you won't be on that long compared to some women (I went on BR at 22w) and you are quickly approaching the points where if the babies came, they'd less and less care in the NICU.
I agree with the above. My guess is that they will keep you on bedrest to stretch you as long as you can.
Momma Maven In The Making!
I completely agree with this. With the positive FFN, I can't imagine they would take you off bedrest yet. Not that its always accurate, but they do put alot of stock in that test....especially with the ctx and shortening. Good luck!
