I just don't know what's wrong or how to fix it. It seems like Dixon is spending most of his wake time crying or fussing. We are taking two to three showers a day to calm him down. Yesterday he was too worked up to nurse! That has NEVER happened. I think he must be teething, but I don't feel like continually dosing him with tylenol is a good idea. If I picked him up out of his bed and never sat down, never tried to change his diaper, just walked and nursed, he would be a happy guy. But I can't do that. I don't know what I need. Advice on how to keep him happy would be greatly appreciated!
Re: What do I do with this mess of a baby?
When one of mine got like that, I'd take them into my bedroom with the lights off, lay them either on my chest or next to me on their side, and we'd just lay there. I'd rub their backs, hum to them (works even better if their head is laying on or pressed up against your chest so they can feel the vibrations from it too), or just repeatedly talk to them in a soft calm voice. It usually took anywhere from 5-15 minutes for them to calm down, but once they did they were good to go for a while. They just needed to decompress and get away from it all for a few minutes.
If it's been going on for a while, continues all day long for more than a few days, or it's impossible to calm him down for long amounts of time, I'd take him to the pedi to rule out any medical problems that could be causing it (like a possible ear infection).
Sounds a lot like how Coop was at that age. I would take him to the pedi (however, this is coming from a mom who takes their child in for EVERYTHING!). With Coop it was either reflux or ear infections when the crying got like that.
Hang in there mama! It is exhausting when they cry like that and you feel helpless to fix it.
