Evan is a runner. The second his feet touch the ground he is like Forrest Gump. So when we go anywhere DH always just runs after him while Leah and I shop or whatever. We went to the aquarium yesterday (which we haven't been to before...it is pretty small so he didn't really need it there) but I wish we would have used it a lot sooner!!! I wanted to try it out - specifically for when I take them out alone somewhere without the stroller and mostly for walking to and from places.
It comes down to this - for my DS anyway...either we have to hold his hand or arm to keep him close or we can put this on him and let him explore what he wants and go where he wants to go. I don't want to pull and yank on his arm, obviously...so this is a great solution for us. If he started running and reach the limit he would actually WALK! It was a miracle - haha!
When it was ok for him to run totally free - we just tucked the tail into the pack.
I know a lot of people just can't see themselves putting a leash on their kid (but typically those people only have one kid or don't have two so close in age) My dad is horrified at Evan's backpack -hehe! But I love how it keeps him safe and close without having to squeeze and pull him by the arm -like I see WAY too often
Just thought I would share!
Re: Evan wore his backpack (aka leash) for the first time
i love this!
i personally think people (parents or not) that judge parents who put their kids on leashes are idiots.
we have one for M, it's a harness with an plush Elmo on M's front. he hates it until he realizes he has some freedom, but i like the fact that he's safe. i have been thinking of upgrading to something less babyish like a regular backpack with the leash, but i think i'm in love with that monkey!

This just made me LOL!
My favorite is when I'm on the tri boards and the pregnant women are "appalled" by them- clearly they've never walked anywhere crowded with a toddler. I would never be opposed to using one for Justin, just never bought one.
My favorite is women who "would never use them" but will rip their kids arms out of the socket when they aren't walking nicely.
I don't think backpacks are bad either. In fact, I had one on our registry (but no one bought it - they probably judged me haha). I had the dog on our registry, but ended up buying the mini back pack, bc I figure it might be nice in the future to stick something small in there and let her carry it for maybe when I no longer carry around a diaper bag.
Oh and I love the comments of people saying their kid isn't a dog. After seeing the way some people treat their kids while I am at work, I only wish they treated their kid as good as I treat my dog.
