2nd time moms: what strollers do you REALLY need?

Ok so Im in stroller hell trying to figure this all out. Clearly have some time but getting ideas.

I have a friend who has the snap & go, an uppababy, and a city mini. Do you really need all of these?

Re: 2nd time moms: what strollers do you REALLY need?

  • Out of those three, I'd probably just stick with the Uppa baby.

I have a Bumbleride Indie Twin, my travel system stroller and a Maclaren Volo (umbrella stroller). If I were going to replace one, it would be the travel system stroller with something nicer like the Uppababy or a single Indie. I didn't get the umbrella stroller until DD1 was 9 or 10 months.

  • out of those, I'd choose the city mini. I love that stroller.

We have 5 strollers in our garage currently. We will be selling 3 of them, keeping the city select and the umbrella stroller.

  • I just had a travel system.  Something the carseat snapped into and then later on I could use for when she got older.

  • not a 2nd time mom but I think we are doing the snap n go and the city mini
  • We had a snap n go stroller that we used until she grew out of her infant seat (around 11.5 months).  Then we bought a Joovy stroller.  Honestly, snap n go strollers are awesome.
  • I got the matching Graco one to go with my infant carrier and then an umbrella stroller.

  • I'm a one stroller only mom here. Friends of mine had multiple strollers and I knew I didn't want that... or have a garage for that!

I would suggest just getting something like the Baby Jogger City Mini. It's lightweight and easy to maneuver and you can get a carseat attachment bar so that it can be used as a travel system. Hence, no need for a snap n go.

(We wanted more of a jogging stroller, so we got the Baby Jogger City Elite, which is like the mini but with bigger tires. We used it as a travel system with the attachment bar and it's the only stroller we've ever had.)

You know you can get a carseat attachment bar for the city mini and that way you can use it like a travel system or snap n go, right? The city mini is so lightweight anyways... you might think about going that route!

  • We have a stroller that went with our infant carrier and I think we used it 5 times at the most.  We also have a BOB and we love it.  Its a little big, but it moves around great and you can get an adapter for the infant carrier.

  • The chicco travel system was perfect for us.  I never needed anything else.  Someone gave us an umbrella stroller, but I liked using the full-sized one... more storage for my shopping bags/purse/etc.

we're one of those families. though unintentionally.

We got a quinny buzz when I was pg with DD...and hated it after actually using it for a few months. Switched to a combi cosmo, which we liked quite a bit, but did have a few complaints. It was in our trunk during a car accident, so the insurance co gave us money for it and we got the bumbleride flyer in its place. We love the flyer, but upgraded to the city select because #2 is on the way, and there were such great deals right now. (our plan had been to wait and see if we needed a double, but we couldn't say no to the prices right now.)

  • We used a Snap N Go until he was 6 months, and the Jeep Liberty All Terrain after that.  I love that stroller and used it all the time.
  • Definitely the snap-n-go... find one on CL for cheap (ours cost $10), we used it a ton. We had a travel system, but I probably could have done without it. I don't jog, so I never had a jogger, but I did get a bike trailer when she turned one to use as a stroller and with the bike. We also have an umbrella stroller for traveling because I think taking a big stroller is a PITA.

  • We have three- the snap n go, a Maclaren Volo (umbrella stroller) and a BOB Revolution.  The snap n go got put away when DD was big enough, so really we only use two now.
  • I have the Uppababy which I love. DS slept in the bassinet the first 4 months and I will do that again. We are getting the extra attachment. Also Uppa has an attachment for the Chicco infant seat which makes it a snap n go.

We have a cheap umbrella that the nanny likes.

My sister gave me a sit n stand which I may use as well.

My bf has BOB and loves it. It has a snap n go attachment as well.

Also look on Craig's List and consignment shops if you don't mind a used one.

  • i guess i am a little confused why anyone would need more than 1 stroller (except maybe a jogger)?

we just had our graco double stroller that was part of our travel system.

  • we have a quinny buzz (system) and an uppababy gluxe (umbrella). we used some variation of the quinny up until about 9 or 10 months and then started using the umbrella stroller more often, especially when traveling, which we do a lot of. i think it's a good idea to have a "main" stroller, whether you decide that's a travel system, or snap n go dealy, and eventually get an umbrella stroller. but they're too little for an umbrella in the begining anyway. there are so many stroller questions all the time...but it really depends on your lifestyle and budget.

umbrella strollers are much lighter than most regular strollers and more compact. they're great to use for traveling, or as a second stroller ...ie) keep one stroller in your car, and one in dh/so's car.. we've used both are strollers a ton.

  • I used my snap & go primarily and then when my DD  needed a new one we just got an umbrella stroller.  Nothing fancy and it served our needs.  I will say, however, that DD was born in the winter in the Midwest so I had little need for strollers outside for a while :)
  • We plan on getting an umbrella stroller and an Ergo Carrier and also getting a Graco double stroller that will work with an infant carrier. It might be a little much but we figure on using the double when out for long day trips and the carrier and umbrella stroller for shorter trips and traveling.

  • I have my graco travel system stroller--which I love, and is great for when you are on trips and the baby will need to nap in the stroller, and then just a cheapo umbrella stroller I got at a consignment store for $7. That's the one we mainly use now, as of when DS was about 1 or so. We bought a 2nd hand jogging stroller, but honestly--I hate it. H uses it semi-regularly when he walks the dog and wants to take DS, but the thing is just a pain in the butt--IMO. It's huge, hard to store, and just annoying to control.

Unless you have a child who SCREAMS every time they are in their carseat.  Which I did.  She was in the regular stroller by 3 months.  I liked my travel system, and hope to use the carseat in it with #2.  I also love my smaller stroller.  Perfect for the mall.

I have the carseat attachment bar for our city mini and I wish I would have gotten the snap and go.  It's the same price ($60ish) for either and I just really felt it was a waste.  It also made the city mini top heavy and I did have it tip over once when a wheel got caught on a rough surface.  DD was straped in tightly and was completely fine so no harm done but I wish I would have known that beforehand.  I love our city mini though.  One of our best buys!

  • Oddly enough we didn't use a stroller until DD was over 1 so we really wasted money on a travel system.  I highly doubt I will even get a stroller this time around until I have some use for one

Not a 2nd time mom, but I obsessively researched strollers & this is my take too. Also- why would you need a snap & go AND the uppaBaby? The UB practically IS a snap & go since the seat stays out when using the attachment. I loved the UB & CityElite, but we have a good bit of stairs up to our door & minimal storage space (both are notoriously heavy & wide). As much as I wanted those all-terrain tires, I decided the CityMini was the one I'd be happiest with. We're planning on getting only that one. My parents (and several other parents I've talked with) also pointed out that with each successive child they used less/the lightest strollers. For me, my parents had a frufru UppaBaby-like stroller. For their third, they used the umbrella almost exclusively.

This is me too.  I am not the kind of person who likes holding on to a bunch of stuff that is just going to sit in my garage.  So I decided from the get-go I was a one-stroller kind of mom.  We started out with a Bumbleride Flyer and absolutely loved it.  Then when we moved to Europe we decided we needed an all-terrain stroller for cobble stone and other unpredictable European road and sidewalk conditions.  We sold the Flyer and bought a Bumbleride Indie.  I'm definitely loyal to the Bumbleride brand.  They make a quality product.  We are going to keep our Indie single in lieu of upgrading to a double.  I may purchase one of those roller boards that can be attached to any stroller for DS so I can turn my Indie into a kind of "sit and stand" stroller for when he doesn't want to walk.  Otherwise I plan on doing lots of babywearing of this new kiddo in the beginning just like I did with DS.

  • If you live in the suburbs, you may want to consider one good stroller, with a carseat bar (I vote city mini or BOB), and then a used a snap n go (easy to find for $30) that can live in your car, so you're never stuck without a stroller and don't have to be constantly unloading your good one.

  • Some people are just really into strollers- I'm definitely not one of them. I'm personally more of a diaper bag person. Big Smile

That being said, we just have a light weight Graco travel system. It's worked great for us!

  • I have 2, a Chico key fit travel system and a BOB revolution.  I put a stroller in the car about once or twice every month/every other month.  I use the stroller multiple times a day in good weather and probably 1-3 times a week in cold weather (including snow).

The BOB is awesome for city use, and I was using it about 3 days after the blizzard this year.  It is not at all awesome to load in the car. If it was, I would be set.

If I could do it all over again, I would get The snap and go for the infant seat stage.  Then the  BOB for everyday use and  a typical umbrella stroller for the car after the infant stage.  The chico key fit doesn't handle well compare to others so I would just omit it.

If I didn't run and and didn't need an everyday stroller though I would probably just get a Maclaren and a snap and go.  Clearly I have though about this:)  HTH.
