3rd Trimester

Baby shower late in the game

I am 34 weeks and my sister and mother are planning a shower for me in the next few weeks. I have all of my big ticket items. I began purchasing early on and they are requesting I register for the shower. I feel kind of silly registering only for clothes and bottles.

Would you register or just skip the hassle and tell them to send out invites?

  • I would probably go ahead and do a quick registry of smaller items you'd like to have. IMO it gives people an idea of your taste in clothes and items, even if they ultimately end up not getting something from the registry itself.

  • I had a shower this past weekend and I have another one next weekend- I also have all the big stuff and more clothes than I could ever use. I registered for diapers, wipes, butt paste, bottles and things like that. NO ONE hardly bought any of  it (and there were over 50 people there- I got ONE package of diapers). I ended up with more pink dresses. For some reason people don't like to buy the things that aren't cute.

  • There were still quite a few things we needed or wanted besides the big items. Our family kinda "claimed" the big items early in the pregnancy and H and I decided we wanted to purchase quite a few ourselves.

We got our swing, carseat, bedding, bottle sterilizer, bottles, blankets, TONS of diapers, changing pad, little stuffed animals, the sounds machine, etc. I could go on and on. The items we got at our shower would have cost us an additional 2000.00 or more if we bought them ourselves. Plus the things we didn't end up using we took back for store credit and I bought my breast pump and stroller with!

I would still register. If you sit down and think, are there really not things you need for the baby? And I know the tommy tippee bottles we bought alone were almost 100 dollars. So that stuff can add up.

  • Or see if they would be willing to make it a themed party like a diaper party or a Build the babie's library party...

  • My last shower will be at 38 weeks, and all of my big ticket items either I have purchased or I received at my first shower. I registered for a bunch of books, movies, bigger clothes, toys, that type of stuff that he may not use for maybe a year, so maybe you could add some of those things? Just so you have something for people if they have no clue what to get you. If nothing else, if they know you registered somewhere, maybe they will get you gift cards for anything else you want.

  • I'm not even having a shower and I have friends insisting I make a registry.  And they know I have all the big items already.

This!  You could register for items in the category you choose as the theme, so guests can know what you'd like.  I've noticed that people rarely bring items off a registry to baby showers, particularly if the baby is a girl, so a themed party might  help you to get items you actually need.
