When you call your doctors office...

about a question or concern..

How long does it take you to get a call back. My doctors office has a line for an OB nurse and she takes forever to call back. Just wondering if you guys go through the same thing.

Re: When you call your doctors office...

  • Probably no more than an hour on average for my office. They are very good about getting back to me.

  • My nurse is pretty good about getting back to me right away.  I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes.

  • We have a nurses line only, where only a certain nurse answers the line.  Sometimes I have to wait to speak to one, but I've never waited for more than ten minutes to speak to her.  If I need a prescription she can usually take care of it right then for me and call it in right away.

  • if I call right when they open, fairly quickly.  If I call within an hour or later after they open I won't get a call until 5pm unless it's urgent.
  • Normally with in 15 minutes today was about 45 minutes. My doctor's office is fairly small so unless they are swamps or its monday morning, they are quick.

  • Any calls before 4pm will be returned the same day, usually within an hour.  Any non emergency calls after 4 will be returned the next business day.   They also pull your chart for the return call so that they know your case history, it's not just them taking a message for the doctor, the nurse actually gives advice and tells you when to come in or go to L&D.

  • If I call during the day, they'll put me on hold for a few minutes and come back with an answer. If I call and leave a message, it's usually when the open the next morning.

...but if the office is closed, I just call my health insurance nurse line.

  • We have a nurse line where you can speak with a nurse.  I can normally get a nurse on the line within 10 minutes.  It's my favorite thing about our doctor!!

  • I have a high risk OB with triage nurses that always answer the line during business hours and one of the 7 doctors at Labor and Delivery 24/7.

I also have a Nurse Case Manager from my insurance company due to being high risk that I can call 24/7.

  • The fastest call back time for me was 15 minutes. The longest was about 1/5 hours, but I always make sure to call before 2pm, after which your call may not be returned until the next day.
  • Yall have really good doctor offices. I called last monday at 11 about having BH Contractions and didn't get an answer till 8 the next morning. That was AFTER I called 3 more times that afternoon. I usually wait 2-3 hours for an answer/ call back.

  • My doctors office is pretty small because the hospital associated with them is an hour away when there is a hospital 5 min from my house so not many people go there. But usually when I call I ask for my nurse that I see at every appointment, I just ask to speak with her and she is usually available at that moment. If I need to speak to a doctor I let the nurse know and she will have my MW call me and I only have to wait no longer than an hour depending on what the concern is.
  • I have only called a handful of times but a nurse always answers.

  • I just get put on hold and a nurse gets on the line.  I've never had to wait even 5 minutes.  On two occasions, the nurse has wanted to run something by the doctor and will call me back.  This took about an hour.
  • I usually can talk to someone quickly and usually they transfer me to someone.

  • There's usually no wait time as the nurse typically answers her cell when I call. I think I've waited like 10 minutes for a call back before, when she had to ask the doctor something on my behalf.
  • i have called a few times with questions and every time i have had a question they put me on hold for like 10 minutes and then i get to talk to one of the nurses or pa in the office. and if no one is available at the moment they usually call back within the hour.

  • I have Kaiser, so you can get an advice nurse any time during business hours.  If they need to run something by my MW, they will usually put me on hold and try to get an answer.  If she's busy or not in, they usually call me back within an hour or so.

  • Wow!  I'm so impressed by your offices.  I wish mine was quicker.  My OB nurse will usually call back within the same day, but it's usually just a little before 5 or at 5pm- no matter when I call.  There are a bunch of doctors in the practice, but only one OB nurse on at a time and you HAVE to talk to her.  I find it completely annoying.  Reception automatically takes a message for her - you can't get through to her when you call.
