Re: For BFing, Bedsharing Mamas...

  • for moms that have experience cosleeping and night nursing... do you sleep shirtless? Do you have concerns with leaking?

We coslept some of the night, but DS was in our room and I always nursed in bed sitting up or in the glider. Curious to hear other experiences.

  • We nurse laying down in bed. I wear a shirt and just lift it up. Never ever had a leakage problem, night or day. Probably because I stocked up on nursing pads which are now ironically gathering dust

We bedshare & nurse all night and I do not sleep shirtless or I would wake up in a puddle of milk (ETA: And I have woken up soaking wet before... even with breast pads :/ ) I need to wear a bra with breastpads at all times.  But that's just me & I've been dealing with oversupply issues since the beginning.

Plus, I like to sleep all bundled up, so I need long sleeves & pants & socks. :)  Sleeping half naked would be incredibly uncomfy for me!

  • I sleep in my nursing tank, I have lifted my shirt and on some nights just slept topless. I have never had leakage problems like pp mentioned, I totally stocked up and now I used like 2 of them.

  • I sleep with a nursing tank and just leave the side I am nursing her with open/down. If I wake enough, sometimes I fasten it back up, but usually not. In the winter I wear button down flannel PJ tops over the tank and button the top button and leave the rest open so I stay warm but "accessible." I used to leak and just wore breastpads in my nursing tank. But I haven't had to do that since DD was around 10 months old.
  • I leaked for the first time in months on Friday and it was in public! Gah! Well, OK. Not public, in the GYN's office but still. I sleep in long pj bottoms and a nursing tank. I usually wake up with both flaps open.  DH asked where those PJs were when we were dating.  Haha

  • I just sleep in underwear, no top. IBefore LO we used to sleep nude so it's not anything I had to get used to. We do have a waterproof mat and a receiving blanket down on my side of the bed. I wake up dripping usually and LO is always soaked somehow. I just cannot sleep in a bra/nursing pads so why ruin a shirt too?

  • I sleep in a singlet and just pull my top up. Sometimes I sleep topless if it's hot.

I haven't had a leaking problem since the early days when I had milk for Africa.

ETA: I can totally relate to every aspect of this.

I wear a T-shirt or long sleeve T-shirt to bed. I just pull it up to my neck. It was odd at first, but now I am used to it.

As for leaking, I envy people who don't. To say I leak like Niagra Falls would be an understatement. I leak all day and all night long. It better during the day when I weat a bra. However, I can't/don't wear a bra at night due to chronic mastitis issues.

So I leak. Therefore I lay various bath towels on top of the sheets to absorb my leaking. Plus, we have one of those things you put down in a crib in case of diaper leaks. (Handy, not only for me, but because J. used to be a massive spitter upper. As in, a feeding would soak 4 or more burp cloths. Now he doesn't spit up as much, but lately we've been having more CD leaks at night.)

I just change the towels daily or EOD if I am lazy. We do plan on hosing our mattress down once we have some warm weather.

  • I started in a nursing/sleep bra with a nursing nightgown when I used to be really full. Sometimes leaked, but had a waterproof cover so not a big deal.

I've since ditched the bra and just sleep in a nursing nightgown or a regular shirt.

  • Since it's so cold I sleep with a nursing top and a zip up hoodie. Lately I've been having trouble remember to switch sides so I'll wake up with one really full boob.

    I loved this.
