I am feel terrible because I didn't do them. I have no idea why this is suddenly such a huge deal, but I feel like a sucky mom because I never sent them.

We didn't do them either. Or Christmas cards. It was a hectic time...I was a little sad about it, but can't do much about it now. Don't feel like a sucky mom- you were spending your time taking care of your child!!! Nobody will fault you for it...I hope!
I didn't do them either. Everyone met him pretty early, so it seemed kind of silly to say 'hey! Announcing/introuducing Keaton!'...The only person who hasn't met him is my Oma and one cousin but my cousin has facebook and my Oma has been mailed photos and I've spoken to on the phone. I didn't think it made sense to order a whole bunch and give them to people who've met him already.
I don't understand the point of them really. I put info/pics on FB for all to see for free. Every birth announcement we receive goes in the trash within 30 sec.
Never did them. I did order Thank you cards with her picture on them though. I figured that way if people mailed gifts they'd get a picture of her at least. Honestly though between home visits and FB everyone knows this child was born and what she looks like.
This is what I did too. I agree everyone was told when she was born and DH has hundreds of pictures of Ava on his website. 1ht
Don't feel bad! I made my own birth announcements and never sent them. They were all ready to go before she was even born. All I had to do was print a baby picture and mail them...never happened. No idea what I'll do with all these pretty cards, but it seems silly to send them now. I only feel bad at the time and energy I put into making the announcements was wasted.
We didn't either, but here's what we're doing instead (because neither of our extended families will get together again before next thanksgiving):
We're going to take pictures or have her picture taken with her Easter dress (and maybe some bunny ears or something). We're going to put that on the "birth" announcement and a smaller newborn pic--kind of a then and now with birth stats and current stats. Plus, when we send them out, we can include a wallet photo from her newborn pics since we've already paid for them.
And I figure since ppl don't get these at Easter like they get them around Christmas, my baby will get prime fridge real estate.
WDYT? Stupid idea? Waste of money?

this! I actually never intended to send any out because I knew I would be too busy.. plus.. I don't like the idea of spending money on something that most people will glance at and throw away.

Why can't you still send them out? I mailed out my son's birth announcements at the end of Jan. and he was born December 10th. People understand it's a busy time.
I may just still be kidding myself, but I still plan to do them. Maybe my family/friends are all just as lazy as I am, but I rarely get birth announcements from anyone before their kid is 3 months old. My cousins sent out Christmas card with a picture of their October baby on it, and we joked about what overachievers they are.

haha I want to do it too! I keep getting coupons for 20 or so free ones from Shutterfly and TinyPrints. I kind of want to do how ever many free ones I can get from each company and just send those. Yep...I'm cheap!
