I had one for a year. I had it removed, which triggered a period. That was the only period I got. I was pregnant within a month. Having it removed was so much less painful than having it put in.
I had an IUD for almost a year. It was very painful to be put in for me, although many other women have told me it was no big deal for them.
I got it out 2 weeks after I got married. We were not actively trying to get pregnant, kind of just thinking "if it happens, it happens"...and about 8 weeks after having the IUD out, I became pregnant!

I have had mine in for almost 3 years. Mine has no hormones. I am having it taken out tomorrow and hopping that we will be able to get pregnant quickly.
I had a merina (sp) in for about 14 months and had it taken out two months before our wedding in March 2010. I got pregnant in April 2010. (I wanted to wait until we were married until we conceived - I had no idea it was going to be so quick! I'm 36 years old and have never been pregnant before - I thought I'd have difficulty due to my age, but that wasn't the case at all!) I'm due on January 27th. Best of luck!
