What Sleeping Arrangement Worked for You? 0-3/6 mos.

I have a 2 1/2 year old.  We bed-shared, co-slept, used a swing, slept on a floor mattress, and more during the first 3-6 months of her life and never found one way that was ideal.  Pregnant with #2, I am trying to see if I can get a bit better plan of action...I know I really won't know until it happens.

But, I would love to hear what sleeping set up worked best for you - especially during the first 3-6 months?  Sidecarring the crib? Arm's Reach Co-sleeper?  Bed sharing?  A specific product?  etc.?  Thanks for sharing your situations

  • When #2 arrived, we side-carred a crib for DS to sleep in, and I slept between him and DD to keep him from rolling on her.  It's been a great arrangement for us, and even if DS wasn't still bedsharing too, I'd love the side-car arrangement.  I wish we'd done it sooner.

  • We have DS's crib side-carred with ours. Works great.

  • I am in the exact same situation as you! I decided that for this baby I will start out the night with baby in the Amby Baby hammock, and then we will probably bed-share at some point during the night.  I like the idea of using the arm's reach, but I have an [probably irrational] fear of flat head, so I'd rather him be in the hammock when we are not bed-sharing.
  • ARCS and then bedsharing.
  • Congrats on #2!

We had an arms reach co-sleeper.  He probably mostly slept there the first couple of months because I wasn't sure about bed sharing yet.  This time, we plan to side car the crib and newbie will either sleep there or beside me in bed...or both!

  • We bedshared at that age. We did sidecar the crib at some point (2nd month I think) so we could add more room on the mattress for all 3 of us!

  • We tried the (family heirloom) bassinet next to our bed and she hated it and refused to sleep in it.

We did part-time bed-sharing (my DH wasn't comfortable with doing it all night) and part-time in her swing right next to the bed (she loved the side-to-side motion).  She slept in her swing until she was almost 4 months and then went straight to her crib and we would still bring her to bed with us when she woke up in the night.

  • We are bedsharing full time.  I am considering side carring the crib to give us a little more space as DD  is getting very fidgety at night.

  • The first 4 weeks we took shifts staying up because she would only sleep in our arms.  We had the bassinet in the living room and would keep trying it with her.  Once we started getting a decent stretch out of her we moved the bassinet into the bedroom where she slept until 9 months (first in the bassinet, then the PnP).  MH is a deep sleeper and we weren't comfortable bed sharing until she was old enough to move around on her own.  From 5 to about 7 months we had some major sleep challenges and I did bed share with her a number of nights a week in the guest room, but since 9 months she has been in her crib in her room and FINALLY STTN again.
