When you take your baby out in public, do you go out alone? How do you handle feedings and crying? We take short walks, but besides the doctor's office, I haven't ventured out yet. LO is a day over 4 weeks. Do you think it's too soon?
Yes, we go out alone during the day while DH is at work. I make sure I feed her before I leave because I'm not keen on the public BF'ing thing yet. She sleeps most of the time when we're out and we have only had 1 or 2 crying episodes when we stopped moving, but goes right back to sleep after we get back in motion. I don't think it's too soon, although we have been going out to a few stores here and there alone since she was 2 weeks.

No it is not too soon. My husband went back to work when the baby was 2 weeks old and I have been out alone several times alone since then. However my baby doesn't cry very much during the day unless he is hungry. I make sure to feed him before we go out and also make sure to bring a bottle of pumped milk with me since I don't have nursing tops/etc public nursing would be interesting.
when we go grocery shopping i wear my LO in a baby carrier because it's not safe to put baby the car seat anywhere but in the shopping cart basket- which is where my groceries need to go. most other times weuse the car seat.
we went to carmax when she was just a week old to buy a new car! i have a nursing cover so i'm cool with public nursing.

All of this for me as well. I very rarely use the carseat as a carrier. It is cumbersome to carry IMO and there is never anywhere safe to set it. I always wear my LO in a front sling. First of all it keeps them close to you and that is very comforting to them, secondly, people are much less likely to try to touch your baby when they are in a sling. I will nurse anywhere as long as I have a cover but if you are not comfortable yet, I find dressing rooms to be a great place as well as my car.
Because he started out in the nicu for 10 days and we have only had him home for about 4 our pediatrician told us not to take him out because he is at a higher risk for RSV....so the only place we have gone so far is to his doctors appointment. This is our first and Im already a worry wart so we probably will not take him out much unless it is necessary until I return to work.
I've been using our Snugrider stroller frame with car seat in every store. I just put my groceries in the bottom. I can't fit much in there, but it works.

I don't think its too early. We began taking DD out a week or so after we brought her home. Only on short trips - we met friends for lunch one day, bookstore for an hour another. DD is 3 weeks old now and since DH has been back to work I've taken her out on short trips to Target or to the mall. And we pick up DS everyday at school. We spent quite a while out the other day. I got my eyebrows done, got a smoothie and went to the mall. I felt accomplished hahaha. I'm lucky DD isn't much of a crier. So far she's hasn't had a public meltdown. Its come'n though I'm sure lol. I'm also not very keen on feeding her in public so unless its to the mall (there are very very nice family restrooms with breastfeeding rooms) I try to feed her before I leave. If I can't I pack a bottle of pumped milk and suffer through the boobs missing a feeding. Some people feel like they have to keep their babies in for a while, to each there own, but we weren't like that with DS or DD.

Since I have a c-section I have not gone out alone yet just because I need someone else there to lift LO and drive (although I started driving last week when I stopped pain killers). When LO was 1 week old I went out with DH and my mother. We just made sure that LO had a clean diaper and was recently fed so he would be okay and he slept the entire time we were out.
We usually snap the carseat onto our stroller base (its a bugaboo cameleon so its really easy to flip open and snap on it like 2 minutes) that way we dont disturb him while he is already sleeping, which he is usually doing anytime he is in his car seat. We have done 2 long 5 hour outings, and those times we used the bassinet attachment on the stroller since its more covered and he has more space to move.
We've gone out plenty of times! I just make sure to time it right after a feeding. We're still having trouble BFing so I'm pumping and bottle feeding, which makes public outings a bit easier. A is a fairly easy baby so he really only cries if he's hungry.
