Babies: 9 - 12 Months

So, the TOS.

"No soliciting of any kind on the message boards or in the chat room."

That's all I could find relating to the subject at hand.  Could someone either show me the pertinent line we are discussing being crossed tonight, or explain how soliciting in another persons' sig is somehow okay according to this?

  • Well I don't see it which is why I didn't report her.  I thought she was offering to do it for free.

So people are e-bullying someone with no backup (at least, not without being completely hypocritical).  What.  A.  Shock.

  • Am I imagining it, or did Shorty post a member's personal info on here a few months back?  Because I'm pretty sure that's against TOS.  So is bullying, which she has been banned for at least once.  I laughed a little when she posted that she's never broken TOS.

I'm sure if she knew a bumpie who knew a bumpie she wouldn't be reported

  • The reason it's okay to have a link in the siggy is because that is a referral, not a direct solicitation. It's only solicitation if you are specifically asking someone to do something for / with you. Whether or not she was actually seeking money, the poster would have profited from her solicitation (by building her portfolio) and that is against the rules.

I don't know how the others worked it, but I know that for a time I had a link to Shortyred's shop in my signature. When someone would ask about birth announcements / invitations / etc, I would reply that her etsy link was in my signature, as a referral. I wasn't the one soliciting; rather, the person asking was soliciting referrals.

I didn't see the OP and don't make a habit of reporting people, myself. I just wanted to clarify that what I was doing wasn't soliciting.

  • If I wasn't on my tiny, made-for-midgets netbook, I'd have a grand old time writing up a letter to a mod asking for clarification.

Actually, isn't Irish a mod?  Maybe not for this specific board, but on TB?

  • Do goods have to be exchanged for it to be soliciting?  Like if I offer to make someone something is that soliciting or is it only soliciting if I want money/something in exchange?

A girl on one of the other boards offered to make DD a tutu.  She doesnt have a business.  Is that soliciting?

So, technically, wouldn't all of these posts asking for people to vote for their children be against TOS as well?  That is "soliciting", afterall?  Then again, wouldn't the entire Swap Spot board be against TOS?  Hmmmm....

Yes, actually, they are.  The swap spot is itself immune from the solicitation rule, as I understand it, but the vote soliciting is not only against TOS, but also annoying. That said, I don't report it. I just ignore them.

Honestly, I don't care about any of those posts.  They don't bother me at all.  Definitely, not enough to report somebody for it.  That's just people who are, clearly, bored.  The only people worth making the effort to click on the "report" button are the ones who are, in fact, harrassing other posters.

    Agreed completely!

But to be fair, the intent of this part of the TOS is to not promote the business of bumpies, which would compete with the sold advertising space on the bump.

The fact that Shorty (who rarely posts here anymore, at least on 9-12) made a cameo to report someone who really was rather harmless - and even stated that she would gladly take down the link, AND made a post prior ASKING if she could do this (and got all emphatic yes's) is what is "disgusting" IMO.

  • I honestly don't care who posts what.  I only report AEs.

This poster had a thread asking for permission in which no one objected and then posted another thread and offered her goods for free.

Obviously a bat signal went out which is why we are seeing so many people that haven't posted in months.

Fair enough. The mods should clarify the rules.

I didn't see the OP, nor do I have any opinion on it. I just wanted to throw out there the difference between what I (and others) used to do with Shorty's shop, and what the OP was doing.

Exactly, I ignored all the tons of hoopla around jessknell's hats. I didn't care if she advertised or promoted or if others did it for her. I didn't need a hat and I wasn't bothered by the posts. I am so shocked that others didn't just ignore one or 2 little posts on a weekend by a newbie. A simple post telling her the rules would have sufficed.  No reporting was necessary.

  • Jamie: yes, I'm a mod. I don't really understand the specifics, to be honest, so I'll log into my old screen name and ask for you. I won't get a response until tomorrow at the earliest though because of the holiday.
