Feel like baby is glued to me (feeding ?)

I love my DD so very much, and breastfeeding is going well, but because I'm EBFing, I feel like she is glued to me, especially from about midnight until 1 p.m.-ish (since I'm the only one who can feed her at night and she cluster feeds in the late morning). It's making me an emotional mess, because I feel guilty about wanting a break from her but really need to get stuff done for me (chores, a nice long shower, whatever).

Next week I return to classes in the evening, from 6-10 (with a half hour travel time to and from, roughly).  I originally planned to pump and feed her that way while I'm at class but I'm strongly thinking about introducing formula... not all the time but once in a while, so that I can have a break once in a while, and not worry about pumping for classes. I want her to still get breastmilk until the end of my maternity leave (I will likely be switching entirely to formula when I go back to work due to my erratic "schedule") so I don't really know what to do.

Anyone have any experience with this? I'm going to be asking her pedi about it tomorrow. I haven't posted this on the BFing or 0-3 board or anything...

  • I feel that way too, and I started pumping so DH could take over at least one feeding.  I know it's hard, but hang in there.  The cluster feedings got a lot better for me in the 3rd week.

  • My LO started cluster feeding in the middle of the night in the first few days of her life, and at 6days PP I started pumping at night and giving her a bottle of BM. since she gets a bottle atr night now that's stopped and we get dso much more sleep!

don't worry about needing to switch to formula, just try to give her your milk for as long as you can.

  • I am definitely going to keep nursing in addition to giving the occasional bottle until I go back to work... I hate that I'm going to FF full-time after I go back to work, but my schedule is unpredictable due to the nature of my job and although I'm "scheduled" for 9-5 that's rarely ever the case two days in a row. Perhaps I'll use this to begin a long weaning to formula.

I think DH would love to feed her more often anyway - he loved giving her a bottle of pumped milk the other day and she took that and then asked for the nipple soon after and had the best nurse of the day so hopefully she'll continue to be that accepting.
