Just before DD turned a year we finally got her taking more than a couple sips out of her sippy and was for the most part almost completely on the sippy, except for her morning bottle. Now since we are fully transitioned to whole milk, she is back to taking a sip then throwing the cup and refusing anymore. I know it's not the taste because she will down an entire bottle of milk, no problem. It wouldn't bother me so much, but she also refuses to hold her bottle on her own. She certainly can, but won't with DH or I. I don't want to be holding the bottle of milk for a kindergarten child!! Anyone have tips to get her drinking milk from the sippy?? TIA!
Re: need sippy and milk help!
DD did this for the first few weeks after we transitioned to milk - no problem drinking it out of the bottle, and would take some sips from a sippy, but that was all. I literally just waited it out and she figured it out on her own. It just took a few weeks for her to want to do it! I always started out with the milk in the cup at meals, and if she didn't drink it by the end, then I put it into a bottle for her to drink because I really wanted her to get that nutrition. Eventually, I think I just wore her down by always having it in the sippy at the table. Just yesterday, I put away all bottle supplies (except 2 bottles - just in case, for a few more weeks - then I'll put those away, too!) and now she just sees her sippy cups sitting out on the counter.
Have you tried different sippy cups? We've gone through a few different brands / styles, and DD finally settled on this kind:

I'm glad she picked cheap ones!
I don't know how to help with the holding the bottle issue - DD has wanted to hold her own bottle since about 4 and 1/2 months old (that surprised the heck out of me!), so I never had to deal with that.
I really just think your little one will get the hang out of with time - I worried about this a LOT, too, and then, poof, one day, she just did it! Silly kids.
We had the best luck after trying different sippies. DD finally "got it" with the taller, more slender sippy cups (i think playtex or munchkin brand but there are several similar ones) that had a soft clear spout, most similar to a bottle. My thinking was that the taller slender cup was similar to a botttle, as well as the soft clear spout being similar to the nipple of the bottle. Even though everyone told me to get ones with handles, this worked better for my DD. We also had a harder time with the straw cups because she wanted to tip them up like a bottle as soon as we would stop holding the cup for her.
I also really like the tommee tippey (sp) brand but didn't try that when she was just starting out with sippy cups.
