How to up the milk intake?

I need a little advice. Jack is now soley on milk and only through a sippy. Well his oz's intake is substantially dropped. I will try only putting a couple ounces in at a time and he will not finish it, if he does finish it he normally spits some up. I don't know what to do and our Dr appointment isn't for a couple weeks. I know he needs the milk and more of it but I am at a lost as to what to do.

  • It sounds like it's upsetting his stomach. I would put a call in to the pedi tomorrow and ask him/her about it. The nurse may have some suggestions.

  • It's the calcium he needs, not necessarily the milk. If he doesn't like milk, you could try giving him his daily servings of calcium through cheese, yogurt, etc. Or, if he is sensitive to cow's milk you could try another kind. But, I don't know if soy or almond milk has the same amount of calcium. Can you call the pedi before your appointment?

  • Yeah I didn't even think about it upsetting his stomach. We dealt with AR when he was a lot younger I just assumed it was spit up again. I will call them tomorrow and see if they have any suggestions.

  • how much milk is he getting? can he eat cheese, cottage cheese and yogurt?

does he enjoy soy milk, rice milk, almond milk or hemp milk? kefir?

my kids drink milk (16oz) plus a variety of milk alternatives.  i purposely cut them off at 16oz of cows milk because that is all they need.  so, remember - he doesnt need as muh as he does formula.  real food replaces formula.

  • We're lucky if he drinks 8oz a day. We do a lot of cheese and I could definitely give him more yogurt. I think I will try buying some almond milk or soy and see if that helps. I just want to make sure he is getting all his nutrients.

  • Will he eat oatmeal made with milk?  Or sweet potatoes with milk?  That might be two ways to sneak the milk in.  Or smoothies?
