Charlie for a girl?

I love it and so does my hubby.  So much that now he wants to reconsider our name choice. But I'm curious on your opinions...it seems EVERYONE I ask thinks its way masculine.  WDYT?

Re: Charlie for a girl?

  • Absolutely!  DD is Charlotte James and the only acceptable nickname in our book is Charlie.  If you see below, we are also seriously considering Hannah for baby #2, so I like your taste!

  • Short for Charlotte or Charlene, right? I don't like it on its own, but I love it as a nickname, I think it's really cute.

I have to tell you, though, it is exploding in popularity, at least where I live. I can think of at least 3 female Charlie babies that we've met recently.

  • My friend had a daughter named Magdalena Charles and calls her Charlie for a nickname.  I think Charles was for someone in her family, an uncle maybe.

If you name her Charlotte ... great!

If you simply stick her with Charlie as her legal name ... terrible.

    This.

  • Any other names that can be shortened to Charlie? Charlize? I can't think of anything else and my H is not sold on Charlotte.

Okay, now that I've read that I feel slightly different.  I think Hannah and Charlotte are equally lovely.

  • I think I'm one of the few but I hate nn Charlie for a girl.  It's a boy's name in my mind.  This is why I don't really like the name Charlotte.

  • We were debating between Avery and Charley for DD #2, and went with Avery. But, I love, love, love Charlie for a girl. We were just going to pair it with a very feminine middle name.

  • I don't like it at all. It is getting insanely popular around here too so that may be part of why I don't like it so much.

  • Love it. My sister has a friend named Charly. Not Charlotte, although that's what everyone assumes. I think she and the name are both super cute. If you give her a more classically female mn, she could always go by that. C. Grace Lastname is pretty :)

  • I really hate Charlie for a girl.

Charlotte is darling, but I would never use Charlie as a nn.  Charlie is a boy's name 100% to me.

  • My opinion - Hannah is lovely, Charlotte is lovely, Charlie is all boy.

  • I don't like it as a fn or nn.
