Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Help! 14 m.o. climbing out of crib.

DD was doing great with going to bed until we took a trip last week.  Since we got back, she has not wanted to go in her crib and has climbed out twice, once on middle setting and once on lower setting.  I'm not sure what to do.  Right now our two options are:

1) take off the front of the crib to make it a toddler bed and get a gate for her bedroom door so she can't leave the room

2) get a cribtent to go over the top of her crib.  I've read mixed reviews about these and I'm not sure how well it would go over.

Has anyone been in this situation?  What have you done?  What do you recommend?  If you have used a cribtent has it been helpful?

Thanks!!

  • Yup!  ME!!

my Lo did the same thing so we use a sleep sack.  (Yes, the make them big enough)  It is like his own little sleeping bag and he can't get his leg up and over the side!

  • When we moved DD to her big girl room we went with the gate over the doorway. We have a video monitor and for the first week watched and any time she even thought about getting out of bed we'd yell down to her- she must have been freaked out by our psychic powers. Now she stays in bed until we come get her.

  • Try a sleepsack!  Halo makes them in size large for 12-18m (and an option with foot holes that should still prevent crib escaping).  You can get it in cotton or fleece.  My LO sleeps in them every night, and I love that it keeps him warm all night because he can't kick or roll if off.
