Hey Girlies- Quick Update

Sorry- seems like every time I get on "something" happens.

Hopefully this is coherent in some form as I'm a bit loopy & very VERY tired.

Kevin has been updating facebook, but couldn't "quite" figure out how to come over to update yet.

Here's a story of what has "happened" so far....

There has been MAJOR confusion over my due date. Originally I was April 10th. My 13th week scan is when it changed till April 3rd which I have been going off of since then. However, they are keeping me to the "original" due date of April 10th since I have been here. (it's so dam confusing to me & I've "given up" trying to understand "why") So according to "them" I am only 33 weeks today which of course makes a big difference in things & is REALLY a lot more frightening to me on his development.

F.Y.I. I'm at Good Samaritan Hospital & have been SIMPLY AMAZED at the level of care that I have been given. I've actually cried each time, I have received a new nurse because each one has been TRULY amazing & I'm sad to see them go. It's nice to hear from each one of them that we are considered to "fun couple" to have on the floor :)

Friday- water broke, came to hospital, checked me & I was 2-3 cm. depending on which dr. you talk to. It's been a whole mess of where I am "really" dilation wise as it's been near impossible to get to my cervix since it is so "weird" there is some kind of technical term for what my cervix is, I just have forgot at the moment. I was having very regular contractions 4-5 minutes a part lasting for 1 minute a piece. They put me on magnesium, anti-biotics, fluids, etc. I was sent to special care OB - stayed there through Friday night. Saturday the contractions got really bad, they checked me & realized that I had indeed dilated further & had completely thinned out.

They moved me over here to Labor & Delivery. They gave me his second steroid shot 12 hours early "just in case" I got my epidural - which I had in my "head" was some kind of "wonder drug" well it did not turn out so much that way. I'll update on that later. Things stayed on that path (magnesium, antibiotics, etc.) & I have lasted until this morning - FREAKING miserable on the magnesium. I had a check last night & I had dilated another inch & he had moved down some. I elected to have my epidural out as it was just making me so freaking nauseous, the catheter was making me miserable & the feeling of my legs/feet going to sleep was getting too much to me. I would rather deal with the pain for "now" I NEVER EVER thought I would say those words but it is true. I never knew an epidural could be so miserable itself.

At this point I had not slept in over 48 hours. I was in some pain asked to have something to take the edge off to be able to sleep. I got some morphine & fell asleep for a good four hours. Even not waking to pee the bed :(

The high risk ob came in the this morning & finally gave me some answers (thank GOD) I was getting pretty down, emotionally spent & just in the mode "of I can't do this" ..

They took me off the magnesium. they have stopped my magnesium since it has been enough time for his steroid shots & I have been super miserable on it. They said if he comes he comes & we will just have a baby.I've been having good contractions since the magnesium has stopped. Dr. said 70% of woman go into labor after going off the mag. if I do stop contractions & do not further dilate they will keep me here until 35 weeks & then induce him.

That's all I know as of now. I'm feeling so much better off of the magnesium & am dealing with the pain amazingly well. with the pain which is UNHEARD of for me!

I'll do my best to get on here & update or teach Kevin to do it!

Thanks for thinking of us/continued thoughts & prayers are greatly appreciated.

  • T&P heading your way!! It sounds like things have been absolutely crazy for you but as pp said, Good Sam is GREAT and the best place you could be right now. Were you seeing high risk dr's before all this or are you seeing the Tri-State MFM's? I had them the entire time I was on bedrest and they are all fantastic and really know their stuff. I'll be praying that your little guy stays in as long as possible! Keep us updated!

  • Oh Megan, what a rough time you are having.  I'm glad you're feeling better now that they've taken you off of the nasty drug -- I've heard the side effects of magnesium are pretty horrible, as you can attest.

Fortunately, Good Same is an excellent facility and your baby (and you!) will receive excellent care.  Keep hanging in there, I have been thinking about you a lot.  I hope the baby is able to stay in a little longer.  Please keep us posted!

  • Wow, Megan, what a whirlwind last couple of days you've had. I have been thinking and praying for you and your little boy. Sounds like you're getting excellent care at Good Sam, and I hope that they are able to hold off on labor for as long as possible.

BTW, I was on magnesium sulfate for 4 days after I delivered DD at 36 wks. via emergency c due to HELLP. That stuff is the worst... I know how you were feeling for sure! Hang in there, momma.
