Throwing DD an "Olivia" 3 yr b-day party, but inviting boys, too?

I really want to throw DD an Olivia-themed b-day party when she turns 3 in June.  A lot of her friends at school are boys, though.  I know that theme is girly, but do you think I could modify the activities to where boys would enjoy it, too?

For example, I want to decorate foam tiaras for the girls and I thought about just cutting out foam neckties for the boys to decorate.  Also, I was going to make glittery red playdough, and that is fine for boys, too.  Other ideas: Olivia pinata from Birthday Express, Olivia coloring pages and stickers for favors, etc.  The decor will obviously be very feminine.  Do you think this sounds OK for boys, too?  If I made it just girls, that would cut her guest list in half to only about 6 other kids.

  • Cute!  Could you incorporate Ian or Julian somehow?

  • I think it sounds cute! The kids are young enough that the boys shouldn't care that much yet too. FWIW, 6 kids also sounds like plenty. This year, we are starting to follow the "age plus one" rule of thumb for how many kids to have at the party. Something nice and small so that none of the kids get overwhelmed with the festivities and everyone gets to play sounds perfect.

  • My 3 year old LOVES Olivia!! i wanted to get him olivia stuff for christmas but it was girly i was so bummed... but he LOVES that show so he would be excited to go to a Bday party that was olivia themed :)
  • DS LOVES Olivia!!!  The neckties are a cute idea...or maybe cut out crowns instead of tiaras for the boys.

This was thought exactly. Adorable idea with the red glitter playdough :) Maybe white playdough with red glitter too!

  • Sounds totally cute and the necktie idea is great.  Incorporating Ian and the other little brother is a great idea, too. My DD loooooves Olivia so I'm saving this idea for her 3rd bday!

  • We did an Olivia theme for DD's Rnd birthday - it was a really fun theme. I was listening to a class of 4 y/os talk about parties the other day & they expect girls to have girly themes & boys to have boy themes - but they are all still super excited to attend parties! At 3, I don't think they think about it that much. You will be just fine.
  • Just finished watching an episode of Olivia with DD before bed, so this just came to me, lol.  But you could do tiaras for the girls and cut-out robots for the boys, since Ian has his toy robot.  Just a thought...

  • That's awesome, I think I love "olivia" more than my DD (named Olivia) likes it.

  • I've been going through the same thing with a Pinkalicious theme for DD's 3rd bday.  I was going to try to come up with some activities to make it boy-friendly as well.  Like we were going to do "Pin the Cupcake on Pinkalicious", read the book, and decorate tiaras but maybe something else for boys.  Anyway, the way I see it is that DD has gone to lots of "boy-themed" bday parties (Disney Cars, etc.), and she still had fun...the boys will (hopefully) have fun the same way!
  • My SON loves that show....
