Re: Do babyhawks have good resale value?

  • We used ours until 2.5. DD was 34 pounds when I decided it was uncomfortable to wear her anymore but by that time she wanted to walk everywhere anyways. They do hold their value really well.

  • I've only had mine a short time but I would guess they would if they stay in good condition.  With no buckles, etc. to worry about wearing out, I would think that a used BabyHawk is as nice as a new one.

  • Depending on the options, I think $50-$60 is reasonable for a used BabyHawk. I have bought and sold at that price point. (usually EUC, double sided and one even had xlstraps)

You might want to check FSOT. There are usually a decent number of BHs FS and you would be able to recoup a lot of your investment if you aren't a fan or don't get a whole lot of use out of it.

On the other hand, I have seen some of the higher end MTs like Bamberoo and KinderCarry go for less than a new BH lately. If memory serves, there was a smaller sized KC that went for $65 the other day. IMO, a KC or B'roo is a much nicer MT for the money. I can still fit my 4.5 y/o in our non-darted B'roos and he would never fit in a BH. (not that he lets me wear him :) )

  • Are you looking at the mei tai or the Oh Snap?  I wouldn't get a babyhawk mei tai at 11 months - they are great for younger babes but not so much for toddlers.  The Oh Snap however is a good choice for toddlers that you should be able to use as long as you need a carrier.

FSOT has been slow in general these days so it's hard to say for sure how much value it will retain.  It also depends on the wear and the prints you choose.  In general though, you should expect to be able to get back between 50-75% of your investment assuming that you did use it but that it's in good condition.
