Success after IF

Dd almost choked on a kleenex

She is ok we think - we were in a hotel and I changed her on the bed. I always pat her bottom dry with a Kleenex - dh brought me two and I threw the used one away but it didn't register to throw away the clean on (white tissue on a white bed). I left dd on the bed and pulled on my clothes and started to clean up the room so we could check out - dh was in the shower and I could see dd on the bed (but not her face). Right as dh came out of the bathroom she started making a gagging noise and I asked him what she was doing- he thought she was throwing up and flipped her onto her stomach. I rushed over, saw the Kleenex in her hand and realized she had been eating it. Dh whacked her on the back and she coughed up a glob of spitty tissue. She started to cry and I don't think she ever turned blue but we were shaking. I am still paranoid about listeria and her getting sick but I failed to get a choking hazard out of the way. I don't know how any of us made it to adulthood - I just thank God we got there in time and she is seemingly ok. Ugh I feel so not cut out to be a parent - it is harder than I ever imagined

Re: Dd almost choked on a kleenex

  • How scary! I'm glad she is ok.

Definitely don't beat yourself up over it though... these things happen to the best of parents. DD pulled a chair down on her head a few weeks ago while I was only a few steps away... they're faster and smarter than us sometimes :) It doesn't mean you're not an amazing mommy!

  • I'm glad she's okay!! It probably wouldn't have crossed my mind to move it either. Unfortunately, sometimes we have to learn from our mistakes. The good news is that she's okay. ((hugs)) You're a GREAT mom!!
  • Don't be so hard on yourself.  I'm glad she is okay and these things happen all the time.
