What Prenatals are you taking? I have been taking mine since I got off of BC last June, but in comparing what it has in it to my books, I am worried that it has no Omega 3/DHA. Do you take any other supplements for Omega/DHA or any other nutrients (another concern is calcium) ?
TIA!

Re: Prenatals
My doc gave me a script for CitraNatal Assure. It has a regular prenatal tablet and a DHA Capsule. I definitely think this brand has a great mix of all the nutrients I need.
This. And I do add an Expecta (a DHA supplement for pregnant/nursing moms), amnd a calcium supplement on days I don't eat much dairy. This was all per my OB last time around.

So I asked my doctor and he said over the counter are fine and didn't say that I should be taking the ones with DHA that I could if I wanted to. He also added that the only thing that has been proven to do anything is the folic acid. The folic acid has been proven to reduce (it reduces risk by like 50% or something like that, paraphrasing him so I may be off, which is quite significant) but not prevent your risk of neural tube defects (so the vitamins are really only needed until the neural tube closes, he said not to worry if I needed to skip some because of nausea etc.).
My personal opinion is the vitamins don't hurt as long as you aren't over doing it but your body absorbs vitamins in food better than any pill you take. Eat healthy (dark green leafy vegetables, etc.) and you'll probably be gettin all you need. I wouldn't worry about it but if it's something that makes you feel better to do then get the vitamins with DHA/Omega 3. You could also try just adding something to your diet that has Omega 3 in it.
That being said I take Kroger brand prenatals and they gave me a sample of a couple of week supply of a prescription prenatal that I haven't taken yet.
For this reason, my doctor and I agreed it would be fine to stick to my normal Centrum chewables (I HATE big pills) and added Folic Acid 400mcg as soon as I got a positive test. I am going to ask about Calcium chews at my next appointment since I'm lactose intolerant and tend to stay away from milk products. Also, maybe a Fiber supplement to help with constipation.
If you have any doubts or questions, ask your Doctor!
