Can't find a name!!

I am starting to panic, I'm 33 weeks and have no name for this lo!  We keep picking one and then dh will decide he no longer "loves" it. :( We want something different, but not crazy and it is hard to find.

What do you all think of the name Soleil? (Pronounced like the french word, So-LAY)

I love it and dh did, now he isn't sure. He is afraid it doesn't really sound like a name. Of course he has no suggestions!

Re: Can't find a name!!

  • I love the name Soleil its different and wasn't that punky brewsters "real" name? Soleil Moon Fry?

  • I think she will end up correcting people a lot when they try to pronounce her name.  What else had been on your list?

  • Yes, "Punky Brewster's" real name is Soleil. I think a lot of people will know how to pronounce it and a lot won't.

I'm interested in knowing what other names you have talked about.

  • I don't care much about correcting people, we have to with our other children and their names aren't even that uncommon.

So far the other names have been:

Eleonora (pronounced El-ee-oh-nora) but I think it is a little too long, hard for Americans to pronounce and too much like Eleanor.

    Luna

    Gaia (guy-ay)

Dh likes names like Charlie, Carlotta, Carla ect but I hate them.

I think Eleonora is cute. There are many nn's that can go with that to make it easier for 'Americans" to pronounce (Ella or Nora for example).
I knew a girl who's name was Luna Moon. No lie. She was teased a lot. Granted it was her crazy parents fault for naming her practically the same as their last name. But now I have 'name association' with that name.
    Gaia - I'd pass.

What about Charlotte? It goes nicely with DH's C's and you could call her Charlie for short...

  • I'm not a big fan on nn's, I personally like to call our children the name we pick for them, so I would get pissy if anyone tried to shorten it ;)

Luna Moon, that is a little crazy LOL!

Did I mention that I HATE the name Charlie and hate nn's. Charlotte isn't that bad but getting a little too popular for my taste.

I just want to find a nice, not so popular name we can agree on!!

  • I like all the name choices because they are different. I thought Soleil was pronounced ( So-leel). I could see many people saying Soleil and Eleonora wrong. I also think if you hate NN's you should find something that can't really be shortened. I'm not into NN's either and when we named our little girl I tried to find one that did come accompanied with lots of other options. I looked up the meanings and most of them seemed earthy. Maybe you could pick something you want her name to mean and look up names that way. Out of all the choices I really like Luna. But I think whatever you pick it will be great.
