Upstate NY Babies

Oh lord give me strength!

Sleep training...night 1. B's sleeping is horrible lately. She's napping fine but her naps are getting longer and longer and her night time sleep is getting shorter and shorter. So since i'm on vacation as of tonight, it's sleep training. I hate hate hate it! This sucks. But it will get better right? She's been up for over an hour. At least she's not a screamer...just fussing. I'm going in every 10 minutes or so to lay her down with her paci... but I somehow feel like I'm abandoning her.

And a side note...this stupid add keeps popping up every time my cursor touches it...shedding for the wedding or something like that. STOP it's so annoying!  This happening to anyone else?

  • It will get easier. With Justin I learned that I couldn't go in to check on it/replace the paci- it would just "reset" his sleep progress. I had to just leave him alone. The 1st night I did that he fussed for like 35 mins, the next night 10 mins.

and YES Oh.my.god that ad... I was going to post the same thing earlier!!!

  • I just always remind myself that sleep is healthy for them and if it takes some fussing/crying, it's worth it in the long run.  It definately got easier for us.  The first few nights were rough (and he regresses from time to time) but now that we're past that period, we're all much happier!!!  GL!

This exactly for dd too.  She would fuss for a while, and then the time I had planned on going in (5 min, 10 min, or 15 min) I would go in and then when I would leave she would have awful uncontrollable crying.  It made it so much worse.  It is better for dd to just leave her when she fusses.

  • I've done it twice with Dylan!  It's horrible and you DO feel like you're abandoning them.  However, it's better for them in the long run.  I did it twice with him.  The first time I had to do it two days and the second time just one day.  Good luck!

  • Night 2 went so much better. Last night she fussed for over 45 minutes. Tonight, no more than 5. I'm hoping this was not just a fluke tonight.

Most likely it isn't. I think after the first night, they kind of know you mean business and settle right in to go to sleep. Glad to know it's going well. We had to do hardcore sleep training twice with DS - the initial time at 7 months and last year after his tube surgery (once we knew he was healthy, we realized he was playing us...smart kid). Each time stunk, but has been so worth it.

  • Night 3...NO Fussing!! She was awake and just went down drowsy but still awake. I just gave her back her lovie and said goodnight and saw her roll over and go to sleep. Well she was exhausted from a very busy day but now let's hope she sleeps in until 7 again tomorrow:-) Thanks to all you ladies for your input.
