use the middle name of one child for the 1st name of a later-born child?
my instinct is no - too weird and don't want to give the child a complex! - but we're trying to figure out/agree on a 3rd girl name and having trouble!
I personally wouldn't. But I have seen it done before. Maybe if it has special meaning to you, or if it is a family name that might not make it as strange.
Not to sound morbid but the only time I've ever heard of that being done was one time when the older one had passed. My roommate in college was named after an older sibling who was born with a disease that she succumbed to before my roommate was born. (PS: if you're superstitious and having this post in your thread bothers you, I'll delete it for you. I'm superstitious and I'd understand).

ha ha. I totally weird about things like that too but no need to delete. thanks though :-)
Nope. I am a strong believe in giving each person their own name. I even hate juniors.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I wouldn't do it just because there are so many names that I would love to use. I would hate to limit myself that way.
I do know someone who named her two sons John Thomas and Thomas John. They were named after their father and paternal grandfather. I thought it was weird at the time and also way too egomanical for my taste. Both are alive and in their teens now. They call them by their initials JT and TJ, which I'm personally not a fan of either.
my parents thought the were done after my second-to-last brother was born, so they gave him both their favorite names. the along comes my youngest brother. they considered taking the older one's mn and giving it to the baby but he'd just learned his full name and they thought it was cruel.
to contrast, a family friend, very catholic, prayed to the virgin that if her husband survived the war he was fighting, she'd name her daughter mary. fast forward to four daughters named mary, all of whom went by their middle names (i.e. mary pat, mary jo, mary ann, etc.)

I know a family that had 7 girls and every girl had either Mary, Marie or Maria in their first or middle name.
That's often cultural or religious though. I knew a girl who went by her middle name (Lisa) but her first name was Maria. Same with 2 of her 3 sisters - her country passed a law relating to children with the "same name" before her youngest sister was born, so she's the only one who goes by her first rather than her middle, since there's no "Maria" in her name.

This was my thought, too.

No, I wouldn't do it.
I think each child should have their own name to be proud of.
