Question about 1st few weeks...

This is so awesome! Since there are some experienced Mamas out there I thought I'd ask my question...

When did your milk supply regulate for your baby?

I have an overabundance of milk - even with feeding anywhere from 1-3 hours. Milk is always leaking during feedings and I go through those nusing pads like water. DD has tons of dirty diapers and I can hear swallowing so I know she's getting food. She'll be 2 wks tomorrow!

    You might be one of those "overachieving" mommas who produces more than your DC will ever need..Supply usually reaches an equilbirum around 3 weeks - 1 month.

    If you still have an oversupply would you consider pumping and donating? It's such a good thing for NICU babies and others, I wish I could do it!!

    I know by the first month my milk supply started to regulate itself better, but I still produced A BUNCH of milk.  You could always pump a little between feedings so you won't leak so much, but it will get there on its own.  GL!

    I've been BF for 6 months now and I still have oversupply.  Its evened out a little (I'm no longer engorged at night or between feedings) but its still very abundant.  My DD would choke as soon as I let down, so I remedied by pumping a small amount first, then getting her latched on after I was done with my initial letdown.  After about 3.5 months it was no longer necessary for me to do this.

    It took a while for my supply to even out.  I went throught lots and lots of nursing pads and I used a burp cloth tucked into my bra and spread over ds while nursing for the longest time because if I didn't the world would have been soaked!  We are still going at 16 months and there are times I still leak!

    I had an oversupply as well. I always made a lot of milk and was a heavy leaker....but it regulated around 4 months that I could go overnight without soaking through *too* much.

    I think my supply is just starting to regulate (7weeks), although at night I still leak and get really engorged since he's sleeping much longer periods now. I have a forceful letdown and this causes him to choke, spit up, and get gas. I'm hoping that regulates soon or he learns to deal with it a little better.

    Mine seemed to be regulated at about 8 weeks.  It is good to start building up your freezer stash early.  Now it is hard for me to pump any extra.  DD is 4 months now.
